DAVIDS: "Sometimes people cross the line within the supervisory board. There have even been racist comments. I don't want to go into details."

CRUYFF: "So we wanted to tackle this problem with someone from the same background, who had come through it. And that was Edgar Davids.

"During one of our fights I pointed that out to him. But it had nothing to do with his skin colour.''

DAVIDS: "I never said, and I want to emphasise that, that Johan Cruyff was a racist, despite this unfortunate remark on his part. I would also like to make clear I have deep respect for the soccer player Johan Cruyff.''

You're handy with color fonts & sizes, less so with the logic department

It's got nothing to do with being a former great player for the club, and part of that great Ajax team that won the Champions League?

Cruyff has been trying to get loads of former players appointed to positions on the board of Ajax or in important positions at the club. Are they really qualified for such positions? Or are they just being chosen because they were former Ajax players, but in the case of Davids it's because he's black and, not because he's a former player for the club that did well for them? Got nothing to do with Davids not being a choice of Cruffy for a board position as he is not one of his disciples that he can influence?

I have a feeling Cruffy is trying to get former players appointed in positions of influence at Ajax so that he can exert his control at the club through them.
You do not understand. He (Davids) got appointed with consent from Cruijff. In the past there have been problems. Talented black players like Elia did not pass the Ajax academy and went to other clubs to become great players. They apparently thought this had to do with a difference in culture etc., so they wanted to have a person with the same background in a position at Ajax to be able to solve problems. He would have to prevent problems like those from happening.
Cruijff basically agreed with giving Davids that role, so it IS true that Davids has that role because of his skin color.
You know have direct and honest Cruijff is. He is NOT a racist, but the remark is a bit unfortunate.

the quotes are clear and there for you to see. If you think Davids was referring to someone other than Cruyff, especially after he has mentioned Cruyff's unfortunate comment then I don't know what else to say to you. I've made my points clearly, if you think they are contradictions you are entitled to your opinion.

Davids was voted on to the board at the same time as Cruyff. Cruyff had no say, and no votes to say yay or nay.

Cruijff agreed on the role of Davids as a person with the background they needed.

Cruijff influenced a lot of the things that happened even before they formed the new board.

Cruyff may have had no objection to Davids being voted to the board. But he certainly had no votes at the time. I agree though that Cruyff has had an influeence before he was voted on to the board, pushing for former players to be in high positions or manager or on the coaching staff.

However I think Davids was voted on to the board because he was a former player. Not because of the colour of his skin. there have been a lot of appointments at Ajax of former players in high positions. Cruyff has been pushing for former players that are his disciples who will clearly do his bidding and not go against him to be on the board, or in other high positions or coaching staff, manager.

The fact that Cruyff and Davids have been having arguments further suggest to me that Cruyff had no say in his appointment to the board.

You are entitled to think otherwise, but I disagree with you.
