Fantasista/Trequartista/Enganche/Number 10 = A role or a position?

Me and a mate have been having a debate regarding the abovementioned topic. I think it's a position whereas he thinks it's a role. What do you guys think?

It's a role imo. But I don't think there's a right answer.

It's a role...
a #10 doesn't necessarily have to play behind two strikers.
He can play wide left (as many do), behind two strikers, behind one striker, or as a support/second striker (like Del Piero, for instance).

or a defensive midfielder like Lass...

I guess there is no right answer. In technical terms it's defined as between midfield and forwards.

It's a more of a role than a specific position, though traditionally number 10s have been attacking midfielders or the second striker or even wingers.

Yeah it could be anything...an attacking midfielder, a deep-lying playmaker, second striker, winger, etc...
