3 - Gerard Pique

People still seem not to know that our captains are appointed by how long they are a member of the first team.

It has nothing to do with certain types of qualification. These four guys are the logical consequence of this. Yes, hard to believe, but at one point this season Dembele was the longest-serving player on the pitch. And at least for a very long time (don't know if even always) it has been managed like that.

I don't like the mindset that captains should always be the ones who push the team. Every team member should be called upon to do this. Masche obviously didn't care if he was captain. There is more to captaincy than just shouting at other players.

The captains are not appointed by length of time. The players vote on it.

To show support. But not to actually vote them.

Nope.
Pique actually was surpassed by both Busquets and Mascherano as team captains despite having first team seniority on them.
Ronaldinho was also voted ahead of Xavi iirc and at least ahead of many players who have been there more.

Only when 4 voted captains are out, it depends on seniority

There is a reason why Pique is called "el presidente". He is a smart guy, probably by far the smartest in the team, but he never was and never will be captain's material. His comments about biased referees may result in trouble for him, but it was about time that someone gets vocal about it. From a psychological point of view this was a smart thing to do. Maybe things on that matter change for the better, at least for a short period of time.
Of course this goes above his responsibilities as a first team footballer, but these things happen if a club is without a president. Remember Koeman coming out in defense of Leo's contract leak last weekend. This isn't his job either, but it was a good gesture and necessary to back a player in public, especially after the whole saga in the summer.

Plenty of folk from Barca have commented on referees and Pique plays every game as if the world is out to get Barca and bitches at refs at expense of defending too often.

There is nothing smart about his comments.

He bought extra years for himself because of his grandfather. He has been playing in Valencia and Bilbao level for many years.

Hopefully he can be ready for the second leg of the copa and champions league.

Maaaybe we won’t be as porous with him and Araujo paired together. One can only hope.

This is a real captain

I was expecting Gerard Pique at some point in our glory years in early 2010's to be Barca's captain some day, the main reason - Messi's introvert personality. But ever since Pique became a celebrity and got himself into controversy - no. Not suitable.
