^ Indeed, why is no one questioning how yesterday Barca had to take out a loan just to pay its players, to TODAY saying they have damn near 100M to spend. Its insanity, this man is meant to be a great business mind? Sounds it...

It's funny how people want to spend 80 million euros on two players who would go straight to the bench. This is the type of stuff that Madrid does all the time and is sickening that Barca is heading in this direction. The reason why this team has been so successful during the last few years is because they gave their homegrown talent a chance and are now the heart and soul of this team. Guys like Dos Santons and Thiago will be ready next season for those two bench midfield spots yet they're going to get screwed because apparently this club has to spend at least 50M every transfer window, what a joke. Oh and the whole, "We were left in financial crisis by the previous administration but have 89M to spend this summer" is pretty funny too.

Certainly a point worth considering. Something just does not add up here.

Brilliant article from Martin Samuel :D

Arrogant Barca teach us nothing
Barcelona are once again proving to be more than a club. Right now, for instance, they are more a giant financial black hole and in such trouble they need to sell players to ease what Sandro Rosell, the new president, called a short-term liquidity problem.
Translation: they're skint. No wonder Barcelona's directors are so opposed to the collective agreement Premier League clubs in England reach on broadcast rights. If Barcelona were required to share their individually negotiated bounty with the other clubs in La Liga they would have fallen into the sea long ago.

Targeted: Cesc Fabregas is wanted by the Barcelona president
Rosell was forced to make his announcement concerning the parlous state of the finances on radio, admitting that Dmytro Chygrynskiy had been sold back to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine at a £10million loss just to ease the crisis. This from a club who have already cashed in on Yaya Toure to Manchester City for £24m (and doesn't that look another shrewd bit of business at Eastlands in the light of these revelations).
It would appear the previous administration overspent and now Rosell's administration is stuck with the bill. We know the feeling.
Things are so desperate that Rosell can barely afford the first-class fare to tap up Cesc Fabregas in the hope of forcing Arsenal to sell an unhappy player on the cheap.
'The Cesc situation is public knowledge so I'll try to talk to him when I go to South Africa,' said Rosell. 'Everyone knows he wants to come here and we want him back, but there are some things you cannot say until a deal is closed or you pay a premium. We will not pay £40m or £50m for Cesc.'
That should be no deal then. The arrogance of Barcelona is such, however, that, even without the money and a good £20m short of Arsenal's asking price, the president is still angling to open negotiations with a contracted player.
And this from a club whose much-vaunted morality is used to beat up our Premier League on an almost weekly basis? This is the business model to which we should aspire? These are the people who presume to lecture on ethics?
Welcome to the Potless Millionaires Club, Barcelona. Now shut up.

Your sure right Mr. Samuel. Thankfully though, at least Barca wont sell their soul to some Sheikh or Russian megalomaniac and the arrogantly proclaim they have the best league in the world while at the same time, bring in overpaid foreign players and neglect their youth system.

We'll shut up Mr. Samuel, as long as you do the same yourself.

Rosell spoke in an interview and announced there's 89 million euros to spend this summer. And that's without Villa.
So let's see which players you prefer and add a price. And be realistic now!

Mascherano: 34
Fabregas: 45
Salcido: 10

Salcido's nuts usually. He's not even close to Barça level. He's a liability at PSV. He's better at Mexico, but still he's miles away from the required level.

He made some very nice long range efforts again Argentina and now people think he's a world beater!

Couldn't agree with you more. The club is getting really greedy and I'm really starting to get annoyed by the actions of Barca. I mean, FFS, barca's squad RIGHT NOW is THE best in the world. Why would you pay so much money to get players that will only serve as backups? why not go for cheaper alternatives? ALSO, i'm tired of the obsession of Cesc that all the cules have. I understand that he's catalan and wants to go back home, but it's really a strange decision to pay so much money for a player who will only serve as a backup to iniesta/xavi. Plus, like you said, there's plenty of homegrown talent that could serve as the backups. I'm a barca fan, but as every day passes i'm starting to get more and more disappointed with this club...

That Martin Samuel article is bizarre, but it's the kind of empty headed vindictiveness that one comes to expect from the Daily Mail.

exactly.

uttery retarded.

but then there are SWATHES of england who are so bitter and resentful towards us because we play football the likes of which they'll never be able to. they constantly hold up arsenal as a paragon of magnificence and we destroyed them this year. and since that arsenal tie the bitterness towards us (which really kicked off after rome) is just out in full-force. and when we fell to "the premier league's josé mourinho" oh they were so happy.

anyway, being in debt, of which this new credit facility is part of, is part of running a big business I'm sad to say.

doesn't mean we should give up. the budget is for 50m every year, we sold players for monies, giving us 89m.

also, after watching busquets tonight... fuck mascherano. sign someone like annan (or maybe someone experienced would be better?) or something to be a talented backup. but we don't need to spend for mascherano. busquets is just killin' it.

we still need cesc, though. definitely.

Cesc: 40 million
Mascherano: 30 million
Ozil: 10 million + Hleb + Henrique
van der Wiel: 9 million

-------------------------Valdes/Pinto----------------------------

Alves/VDW---Puyol/Milito---Pique/Marquez---Abidal/Maxwell

--------------------Mascherano/Busquets-----------------------
---------------Xavi/Cesc------------Iniesta/Keita----------------

Messi/Bojan--------------Villa/Ibra-------------------Pedro/Ozil

Perfect! :)

Bayern appears to have submitted a 20 million bid for VDW, Ajax want 25, so 9 million surely wouldn't be enough.
Why would Bayern even want VDW, though? They've got Lahm, and as a left back he's not as good as he is on the right.

WOW, 20m for VDW! thats a bit steep! They've got Lahm at right back, and the awesome Contento at left back (I think he's class)

this seems to be smart maneuvering by barca to me...they know that they will not be able to do this in a couple of years time and show a loss on the books or else they will risk being expelled from uefa comps so they are looking buying young expensive players now while they can....expected to see more clubs doing it and no doubt there will be a huge explosion of transfer activity in the next couple of years before the new regulations come in to force

Cesc Ceac Cesc.....buy Cesc......

As I told in other post, today, some periodics notice that Rosell will meet Wenger and an Arsenal director - beyond the manager of Cesc - today in South Africa, to prepare the final details of future Cesc contract with Barça, to annonce after the WC Final. True? Just only a rumor? Or finaly we all will have the most desire notice?
