"trequart" is from the Italian word "treqaurti" which means 3/4, three-quarters, and "ista" denominates a person belonging to that category (much like the words "comunista"=communist or "fascista"=fascist).
In this case "trequartista" denominates a player who plays 3/4 (three quarters) up the pitch. So not fully up front, but not exactly in midfield.
