Game.
Alfredo Di Stéfano, Real Madrid's greatest ever player and the honorary president, spoke out. "Barcelona's football was simply brilliant," he said in his weekly column. "Their superiority was there for the whole planet to see: the whites were cornered all game. Barcelona play football and dance. They treat the ball with adoration and respect, almost nurturing it. To see this team in action is a delight."
How much have I missed if I told you guys that I never have watched a single baseball game in my life?
And it is still the most popular sport in the US?
Multiethnic: (French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish etc.)
Baseball bores me to tears normally - I only go to games for the beer and the people-watching. Last night was an exception. VERY good game.

Estel is a meaniehead!
Well I imagine it's great fun. From what I recall reading the Major League Baseball still has one of the highest average attendancies of any sport competition worldwide.
But here in Europe it is as popular as televised chess (don't know if that even exists anywhere apart from Hungary).
It is pretty strange considering the popularity of basketball and now American football.

I only watched the ending of that game but..what a game.
Not really because baseball is slow as hell and difficult to follow without learning it. Comparing it to American football is like asking why Association football and rugby have decent followings in the US while cricket is non-existent except among immigrants from cricket following countries (likewise there is allegedly niche baseball programs in the Netherlands (because of immigrants from the Caribbean) and Italy (because of Italian-American immigrants)).
Plus all sports are regional, usually for irrational reasons. Even when it does make sense, only somewhat - Hockey is the most popular sport in Finland and Latvia, which makes sense on one hand because of the climate, but it doesn't explain why hockey is popular but less than football in other nearby nations, or completely non-existent in the other two Baltic states (while Lithuania is a basketball nation)
Baseball might be non-existent in Europe, but in Japan, Taiwan, Venezuela and parts of the Caribbean it is the most popular sport.

One can enjoy baseball for a lot of peripheral reasons- the ceremonial aspects, the slow pace, etc. But the key to understanding baseball is understanding what is going on between the pitcher and the batter. The pitcher is trying to fool the batter, and the batter is trying to guess what the pitcher is going to do.
I have pretty good hand-eye coordination. But I go try to hit against a pitching machine throwing 60 mile per hour, it's pretty tough. Then you realize most major league pitchers are throwing 80-100 MPH. Not always in the same place. Not always at the same speed. Not always released from the hand the same way or from the same position. That's why getting a hit 3 times out of 10 is considered an excellent hitter. For the baseball aficionado, the pitcher-batter duels are the crux of the game. If one doesn't understand or appreciate those duels, baseball will be boring.
It's all quite simple, really. Just ask yourself...
Chipper you mother f'n legend!
Fuck off Phills...

I can't even say it.
I hate the Yankees but Mariano is one of my favourite pitchers ever. Not only one of the greatest pitchers EVER but one of the most dominant athtletes in any sport ever.
It would be a shame if this is how his career ends.
It can't end like this.....this can't be real...
