RVP is loyal, and knows Arsenal put a lot of faith in him. Wanna know the reason why we haven't won crap for years?
Like clockwork every season for the past 5 years, RVP would get injured and be "out for the season". We wouldn't have anyone decent up front to replace him (i.e. had Bendtner and even Arshavin playing up front at one point), and when the fans were getting angry, Wenger would just say "why should I sign a striker, I have Van Persie". This is literally the first injury free season RVP has ever had, and now people are saying he should leave us to win things? We would have won things if we ditched him for a fitter striker years ago.
You guys would have won trophies with or without him if you had a decent keeper in the last few years when the likes of united were lacking class and yet won the league seems that you solved that problem and looking at City strengthening, now buying some top players will be important to atleast challenge next season.I have always thought that the reason Wenger does't spend is because there is no funds available.
Reading Javier Miguel's Q&A earlier this week in Sport and he very slyly eluded to how he thinks Van Persie will end up @ Barca.
He's smart to leverage Barça into a hefty contract renewal but I really don't believe he's leaving
Paolo Maldini - "In my opinion, Messi should win the Ballon D'Or each year. He's an unbelievable player."
I don't think Arsenal fans are as biased as Chelsea or City fans.
They don't buy "superstars" and I admire their attacking football.
That is what they need right now, their football is wonderful to watch but Wenger and every Arsenal fans know they are no where near challenging for the League and the CL,they need to strengthen.
Arsenal probably plays the most atractive football in PL, but their not strong enough on most positions. The only real "star" they have is RvP.
At the same time the other teams like City keeps getting stronger and signing good players, i dont think it will be easier next year for Arsenal.
In 2007-08 we finished 3rd, but only 4 points behind 1st place and 2 points behind 2nd. That was probably our most successful season since the invincibles, and that was because Wenger actually signed someone (Eduardo) as cover for RVP. We lost Eduardo that same season to a leg break, and since then Wenger stood by RVP no matter how many times he was injured. He even played 5"4" Andrei Arshavin as lone striker instead of getting someone else in January.
RVP spent 7 years being a sicknote and getting paid for sitting on the treatment table. Wenger put immense faith in him by giving him the captains armband and Bergkamp's #10 shirt with that kind of medical history at the club. It's about time he repays it.
Lehmann was world class, but declined badly in his last years at Arsenal. His reflexes were fine, but his decision making went out the window. Either way, not having a fit striker was arguably worse. There was a point in time when Fabregas was just trying to do it all by himself.
My point is, RVP hasn't given us his best years yet. The club did him a great service for the past 7 years, and now it's time he pays it back.
It is during our annual 2nd-half of the season collapse, usually when we lose RVP for the rest of the season.
