Looks like he's in danger of getting sacked as there's a meeting taking place to discuss his future in Gijon.

Damn. Sad it didn't work out for him in the end.

He is their 2nd longest coach in terms of duration since 1988. managed to lead them to Liga and avoid relegation. So I would say at the end it did work for him.
He will probably continue in Liga soon.

Pitu :worthy: Wish him good luck wherever he'll go. Also hope that Rubi can keep Gijon in La Liga but it will be very tough.

Half the season gone and he is doing brilliant with Alaves.

Good thing too. He's even more of a defensive coach than Valverde and would be another small-time manager that would lack the guts to make the necessary changes.

Not convinced we need any of these La Liga managers right now. I'm not a fan of Koeman as a manager, but perhaps he at this time would be a decent option.

Constant rotation, even getting a mention of these kinds of names, points out the desperate times for Barca. Majority of the other offensive minded managers don't want to touch the squad with a ten foot pole. Amazing how little weight being La Liga champions carries these days. Even getting Abelardo probably wouldn't drastically diminish team's chances to win it. Quality on show from championship level squads has gone down.. so hugely...

Somewhat sad times for Spain given it is just incessantly teasing the clubs of Alaves level. Making them feel that they're actually achieving something by having a chance of getting at top4 teams on any given day, while at the end of the year it'll amount to nothing, but just anecdotal pride. Alaves probably still won't finish in top7 and they're basically be what Burnley was in Premier League last year.

PSG are the closest thing to innovation across Europe. I'd love Dortmund to join them, but I'm not convinced they care for coming up with a new brand of football that would challenge the Premier League coaches.

Spain needs to lead the race for the next Pep, next Klopp or the next Conte whose tactics will get copied by the likes of Setien. One would have hoped Zidane could be the man to regularly bring back the 4-4-2 as a useful counter to the modern hyperathletic winger-wingbacks, but it's not looking likely. Couldn't do it with the CM obsession Madrid have. Not sure he even wanted to. Shame.

Could you perhaps do us a favor and enlighten us about all those offensive minded managers who won't touch our squad with a ten foot pole?

Some links as proof would be cool.

Thanks in advance.

@Wolfe you talk way too much crap sometimes.

There's no offensive minded coach that's available and Barca won't buy out someone. If no offensive minded coach is willing to touch this squad with a ten foot pole then they sure as hell don't even want to be in the same city as your shitshow over there in Madrid.

You might get lucky enough to get Pochettino because the guy got a pole up his ass and doesn't want to manage Barca out of respect for Espanyol. Then again, Pochettino is hardly a winner and always been the type of guy to crumble under pressure, and the pressure at Real Madrid is 10x the pressure at Tottenham.

As for the La Liga race then it's too bad you guys and Atletico suck so much. Would have been more interesting with better competition so you're the ones tanking the value of the league.
