Camp Nou begins process of changing to hybrid grass playing surface

The new surface, which has been tested at the team's training facility over the past year, was chosen for its all-season consistency and traction

Every year about this time, FC Barcelona welcomes teams of workers to pull up the previous season's playing surface before laying down a fresh field of sod for the coming campaign.
This year there is just one change. But it’s a big one.

That's because on Thursday at Camp Nou, the crews began the process that will see the stadium's playing surface switch from natural grass to hybrid grass. Crews will swap out the old lawn and put down the new surface both at Camp Nou and on Tito Vilanova Field, the first team's main training pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva in Sant Joan Despí.

The new surface, which is actually a reinforced natural grass, has been tested over the past year at the team's training center.
After years spent studying all the options to optimize the field, the Club chose a hybrid grass, specifically Desso Grassmaster, which combines natural grass with synthetic fibers to provide optimum traction and stability all year round.

The surface chosen by FC Barcelona has been in use for several years in both the National Football League and the English Premier League.
The reigning Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos play on the very same surface at Mile High Stadium, as do the Green Bay Packers at their legendary digs, Lambeau Field.

After completely removing the old pitch, work crews will prepare for the hybrid field with new layer of soil before employing a laser leveling system. The new grass will be laid in 1.5 meter sections with a thickness of 3.5 cm. A special machine will sew in the synthetic fibers to complete the process.

FC Barcelona's first match on the new field is set for Wednesday, 10 August when the Catalans host UC Sampdoria in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Kickoff is set for 8.30pm CET.

I might be wrong but surely they are just concentrating on getting the grass in good condition before even thinking about mowing it into patterns?

Its an interesting table. With the new roof we should increase attendances as rain will be less of an issue, maybe we can surpass Dortmund.

That list will change a lot over the coming years as England experiences a stadium overhaul similar to that of Germany during the 2006 WC.

It currently has 9 German and 4 English clubs. This season Liverpool have expanded to 54k which will see them climb into the top 10 and they will go to around 59k within a few years. West Ham have moved into the olympic stadium and will average between 55 and 60k this season. Spurs are building a new stadium of 61k which they will sell and thus break into the top 10.

Chelseas plans for a new ground are still in the planning phase but they look certain to go ahead so by 2020 they will also be selling out in a 60k venue. Everton also have some plans in the works for a 50k stadium which will put them into the list.

That would make it 9 English teams while reducing Germany to 7.

Disabled Barcelona fan needs to go to the games in a toddler's pram because from this season the club is not keeping wheelchairs anymore

Founded a short translated summary of what this article is about.

He has been a fan for more than 10 years, he is a part owner (as the other 100k). He has his own wheelchair. he also has his own seat, so he doesnt go to the place for disabled people. Before this, he used to go to the stadium using his own wheelchair, and Red Cross allocated him in his own seat, while FCB stored his wheelchair. For some reasons, they don't store his wheelchair anymore (or the one from other disabled people). So his only option was to leave the wheelchair unttended somewhere in the street.

He says that FCB still stores prams, and that is why he went using one.

The Board apparently got the approval for Espai Barca from the City Council.

    600m in their hands...

Signing players next few years will be even more difficult now.

Bartomeu is the last man I'd trust such a big project to. Would be amazing if he didn't fuck this up but I won't hold my breath.

The project being mishandled could ruin our club and we will turn into a new ac Milan, especially as it coincides with key players like mess, Suarei and pique getting older

The club is already falling behind other top clubs because of horrible management
