How many times has he lost the ball tonight ? He is clearly fatigued. He's 33 and one of team's hope in cl yet Valverde plays him everytime.

he played more centerally today, between dembele and coutinho, behind suarez so it's only natural he loses the ball more than when he plays defensive mid / LM

No it's not, He was certainly not fresh and didn't make any impactful decisions through the game either.

He is old not tired.

These games are too fast and intense for him to be player he used to be.

With all due respect to him, it is painful to watch him play like a 80 year old man. He's almost the same age of Ronaldo and younger than Gerrard was under Brendan.

I'm not talking about him running up all the game and keep up with players, he never was that kind of player. To me he was clearly fatigued and couldn't perform like when he's fresh.

He never was a workhouse, 34 y/o Iniesta >>>>>>> any Gerrard, what he can offer in possession is just irreplacable even at his age.

He was fresh as fuck in the two intl games as they were much slower and less intense.

Across the past two and a half weeks he has played around 135 mins prior to this game and majority of that was two friendlies.

Just too old to keep up consistently in games as intense as today.
