Fiorentina are moving into the future by removing stadium ‘cages’ and building a new state of the art stadium complex.

Patrons Diego and Andrea Della Valle had threatened to quit the club if their proposals to build a ‘Cittadella Viola’ did not get the go-ahead from the local council, but it seems on Thursday those plans could be approved.

Mayor Renzi is set to give the all-clear for work to begin in the Castello area towards the north of the city, close to the airport.

The 300m Euro project includes a new stadium inspired by the Allianz Arena in Munich, hotels, parking lots, a theme park dedicated to football and a museum of modern art.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina are already making changes inside the Stadio Franchi for tomorrow night’s match with Sampdoria.

They will remove the metal nets known as the ‘cage’ separating the away fans from the pitch. These are common in every Italian stadium and cause visibility problems, but were considered a necessary safety feature.

The final objective is to have a Premiership-style arena with no barriers between the crowd and the field.

Coaching change, Mutu being an idiot, new injuries every week, and poor summer transfers (no new defenders, Boruc being a waste of money considering he already wants out because he can't surpass Frey, D'agostino being damaged goods). Basically everything that can go wrong is going wrong and the writing is on the walls that this team is going to get relegated. The owners claim they still have ambition but they have done nothing to install confidence in the fan base.

They reached the end of the line after being cheated out of the CL last year. The team has lost all desire since then, this started even before Prandelli left. It's become too easy to blame everything on injuries, there's no passion left in this club.

You couldn't make this shit up if you wanted to. Frey has a knee injury and will miss somewhere between 3 weeks and 6 months of football. I can only laugh at this point.

Well, suddenly signing Boruc looks like genius at least.

Fio lost Frey for the rest of season. Boruc has a party up his ass now.

Plus Jovetic will move one to a better team soon for sure.

What's this Cerci like then? We've been linked with him.

He's decent enough and shows potential but he's really streaky. Kind of surprised you lot would be looking at him, to be honest.

He's very skilled and fast but he's also soft and mentally weak.

He was dominant during the last few weeks of the season but also got into a huge fight with the fans.

He'd be a huge gamble in the EPL IMO.
