Willian

actually it would have been good to sign him instead of griezmann. willian works just as much as fortnite, so many forumers would be delighted. end product would have been about the same. and more importantly, we would have paid a fraction of what we splurged on fortnite.

Hopefully this signing goes through. Wanted him last year. Yes he's over 30 but he's very fit and a very good player with so much to his game. Why wouldn't you want him at least for the short term

To be honest I don't see any issues. It's not like he's going to steal playing time from promising youngsters (mostly because there are none), and he won't be a player we'll rely on week in week out.
He'll come as an backup to an otherwise thin lineup of wingers.

We have promising "youngsters" like Dembele, Trincao and Fati, but they are all pretty much unknown quantities. Depending on their season its pretty reasonable to have someone like Willian up the sleeve.

If this prevent us from buying Neymar I'm all for getting Willian as long as it's not more than a 2 year contract (1+1 would be ideal).

Dembele can't be relied on to stay healthy and we might sell him and behind him we only have unproven Fati and Trincao (if he'll even be here next season).

As sub for like 2 years it wouldn't sound that terrible as long as it doesn't mess with the way more important decisions for the front 3 like the future of Dembele and Griezmann (LW, CF?) or the signing of a new #9.

Would probably mean Trincao gets loaned then, unless they also sell Dembele and only replace him with Willian or Griezmann/Messi becomes the new #9 starter. But let's see, Marca isn't the best source anyway.

Sure he is good enough for backup and rotation but what happens 90% of the time in such cases is: he gets his retirement contract, fucks around in training, won't even get called up for bench, will be scared to dribble forward facing defenders due to no playtime, will get slow and unfit due to age, etc... Why do you think someone like Liverpool or City aren't in for him? Top clubs don't fucking sign declining players, especially 32 y/o wingers.

For a free transfer it is the type of player who can take the pressure off of an Ansu or Trincao.

The other option is he can possibly play the advanced role of the midfield trio as next in line from Paulinho, Vidal. I think he has the capacity to play the role and that Setien (were he still here) has the capacity to make him fulfil it.

Gives Alena another season at Real Betis too.
