Apparently Juve and Chelsea were ready to match his buy-out, so Sergi was in a good position for negotiations. Might also be a "compensation" because he earned too less in the last 2 years. Sounds stupid, but we did the same with Suárez and Rakitic. However, our club pays too high salaries. They don't only play here for status.
Bartomeu was under pressure too because Sergi is the only "younger" graduate of La Masia that is one of our first 13 players.
