20 - Sergi Roberto

This circlejerk is too much for me.

Yes, Roberto and Semedo would benefit a lot from having a true RW in front of them. It's a no-brainer, but they wouldn't turn into World Class RBs.

If Roberto is that great why isn't he the starting RB for Spain?

There's nobody in the world who would come up with world class performances in a tactically damaged right wing. So, what are we talking about? Can you clone circa 2009 Alves and sign him up? To get a clear improvement? No. So all of this is useless.

The state of the market, the board we have, the limitations any RB will have to face when playing for us, all of these make upgrading the position in current conditions almost impossible.

Setien needs to find a way to make switches to the right wing only when there is enough space created there. Like we did vs Napoli when we scored the goal. Because we simply are too isolated there to create constant danger in positional attacks.

Until we get proper wingers who actually play as wingers, we have only 1 option. Move better centrally, draw the opponent narrow, then only do releases in the wings when the fullback has enough space to make an impact.

It's useless to drive the ball in the wings when the opponent is well set, because the fullback doesn't have a winger in front of him. He is basically locked.

This type of setup is the only one that works. You have to play narrow when you don't have wingers, and create enough room on the wings for fullbacks to become your offensive weapon. But they can only become that when the opponents more or less ignore them. Like here. Napoli ignore both Semedo and Firpo, and when we do the switch Semedo has a lot of space and time to pick up a pass. And we score.

We have the ability to fiind great passes in these setups, with likes of Messi, Busi, Arthur, De Jong, Griezmann. So this can work, because we have skilled players in short spaces. The only downside is that you need good movement, and here is where we need to improve. Because it's the good movement that can get the ball moving in these crowded situations and open players up.

None of that pausa shit or keeping the ball for a min before passing it. Doing it so simple, pass move into space. So dynamic.

Top class.

A midfielder that can drive with ball and allows Barca to be flexible.

Roberto nailed them tactically in first half on that left hand side.
