Ligue 1

Yet another odd Ligue 1 season 8 rounds in. Bordeaux is embarrassed 6-1 by Nice mid week only to defeat Lyon 3-1 a few days later. On the other hand there's still a ton of young talents breaking through, a few names to keep an eye out for going into the winter and summer transfer windows:

- Wahbi Khazri 24, Bordeaux, AM

- Michy Batshuayi 21, Marseille, ST

- Sofiane Boufal 22, Lille, AM

- Paul Geroges Ntep 23, Rennes, FW

- Jordan Siebatcheu 19, Reims, M

- Thomas Lemar 19, Monaco, M

- Alassane Plea 22, Nice, AM

- Andy Delort 21, Caen, FW

- Almamy Toure 19, Monaco, FB

- Henri Saivet 24, Bordeaux, M

Interested in seeing how the title race shakes out. Don't know that Rennes and Reims have what it takes to remain atop the table but with Lyon, Monaco, and Marseille limping through the early parts of the season anything can happen. Saint Etienne is playing well domestically though, their 2nd place position is secured regardless of their match results tomorrow but I worry about their continental chances. I think they've lost too much in Gradel, Zouma, Aubameyang, and Tabanou.

In any case, a little late, but top goals, assist, and saves of match day 7:

Few observations after 9 rounds:

- Two recently promoted clubs in Angers and Caen tied for second in the competition.

- Marseille is much stronger than their 16th placement in the league. They have the means to become a club the level of Dortmund, Atletico, or Arsenal but require proper investment. Ligue 1 would be much more intriguing if they could get their act together.

- Monaco was severely weakened by their summer departures. Last season they started similarly, but I don't know that they have the quality to turn things around to finish top 3 this year. Truly a shame, but they still have a good bit of young talent worth paying attention to.

- Lyon is missing Fekir more than I thought they would. Losing him could doom them both domestically and in the UCL.

What happened to Bertus? He always gave solid information on Ligue 1 and especially when the whole Barca-PSG fetish was at it's peak with us fiending over Marquinhos and Thiago Silva like a junkie looking to get his fix.

Bertus has left the forum last May.

Juvens, how do you rate the guy? Came out and said he wants to join Bayern. Don't know much about him.
Ntep is injured again. Seems like he's injury prone, bummer. He's big-mouthed, already bashed la liga though he's certainly not "too good" for teams like Sevilla, Arsenal, etc. Very skeptical of him making it at Bayern.

Stephan El Shaarawy played his 15th game for Monaco last night, obliging them to sign him from Milan.

The forward moved to the Ligue 1 side this summer on an initial loan deal, with a clause which makes the move permanent based on appearances.

Tuttosport notes that the Italian international played his 15th game for the club last night in the Europa League win over Qarabag, meaning the transfer is now mandatory.

It’s thought the Rossoneri will receive €15m at the end of the current season for the 22-year-old, who has yet to score in his nine League appearances for the principality side.
