Football is a simple game, complicated by idiots.
2 games would have been fair. that's what Arshavin got 4 years ago for the same thing.
but it is what it is.
and it could work out for the best. Rooney gets extra rest after a long season, plus extra time to acclimatise and see how his team-mates are playing and how the opposition are getting along as well. and because he'll be suspended for the first 3 games, he won't be going to the tourney hailed as the "saviour" so will probs be under less pressure.
of course, the rest of the team has to qualify without him. the feasibility of that will all depend on the group, tbh.

It is so unfair to everyone else that a player is selected with a predetermined 3 match ban. Its criminal, he will be displacing someone for being a cunt. Id love it for Capello leaves him out, but this is the story of England, their stars and red cards or shit penalties.
Anyways, Capello won't, he will go against his own ideologies because this England project has been a disaster considering how far behind they were and how old school Capello is.
If and when the team qualifies through the group stages, what will want them to drop a player who earned England this qualification for someone who really set them back.
Yep, it's all for the best IMO. He gets a nice long rest, and will not be under so much pressure to save England's ass in the group stages...then he comes on for England when they get a tough tough draw in the knockout stages, gets sent off, England are knocked out and people will be jumping at his throat again. You can't really expect a meat head like Rooney to "acclimatise" or to make useful observations about the opposition or his team mates. Wishful thinking.
Form that never existed for England bar a few rare moments of brilliance?
Am I correct in thinking that it's always the coach's fault when England fails to win international tournaments? (the beckham effigies after his red ard aside)
Capello has dropped Rooney from the squad to play Spain. He says he's trying other players in his role, looks like he might be considering dropping him from the Euro 2012 squad, or maybe just preparing for games without him. I expect most of the first team to be missing, to offset the embarrassment of getting outplayed for 90 minutes.
