Rooney gets extra rest after a long season, plus extra time to acclimatise and see how his team-mates are playing and how the opposition are getting along as well. and because he'll be suspended for the first 3 games, he won't be going to the tourney hailed as the "saviour" so will probs be under less pressure.

of course, the rest of the team has to qualify without him. the feasibility of that will all depend on the group, tbh.

Yep, it's all for the best IMO. He gets a nice long rest, and will not be under so much pressure to save England's ass in the group stages...then he comes on for England when they get a tough tough draw in the knockout stages, gets sent off, England are knocked out and people will be jumping at his throat again. You can't really expect a meat head like Rooney to "acclimatise" or to make useful observations about the opposition or his team mates. Wishful thinking.

England will play Sweden next month as part of their preparations for Euro 2012.

He says he's trying other players in his role, looks like he might be considering dropping him from the Euro 2012 squad, or maybe just preparing for games without him. i think this is probably true. Although, spain arent overly convincing in friendlys.. i think we play Sweden a few days after too.
