"Max Aarons had given his “yes” to join Barcelona, but Norwich did not reach any agreement with Barcelona. Sergi?o Dest is the main option to reinforce Barca's right-back position now. @sergisoleMD"

"Norwich turned down 2 offers from Bar?a for Max Aarons. 1 could’ve been worth ?20M + bonuses. The RB agreed terms on deal that‘s been running months. Bar?a will now try to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax. @David_Ornstein"

We were too late for Dest? seems so. Thoughts?

Imagine how pissed off you'd be with your club turning down a sale to barca for decent money when they've been relegated and corona has ruined finances of even elite clubs.

Never followed him so no idea if he is legit. Shame for him that he didn't get a move to Barcelona, but for Norwich they will know that a EPL will be able to match their asking price within the next few years.

Their playing Championship football though so a loan +buy option should have been achievable.

Sucks for Max if he has to play a year of Championship football instead of Barcelona's bench.

It seems Bayern are also strongly interested in Max Aarons as well. So it will be either Dest or Max Aarons for them. And the same for us, if we do sign anyone.

Regarding transfer fee's, Norwich biggest ever sale was James Maddison to Leicester last season for 25m GBP, when they were a Premiership side.

They sold their 22 year old leftback Jamal Lewis to Newcastle 10 days ago for 18.5m GBP. So while they are not desperate for money right now, 20m does seem within their normal selling range. I don't think they would reject unless the upfront fee and variables were unfavourable.

Max is rated far higher than Lewis in England, though both very highly rated indeed. I think you'd be looking at around ?25-27.5m in some sort of structured deal. Or as previously suggested cash with loaning him back to them for a year. Liverpool attempted to sign Lewis earlier in the window and pulled out, Norwich ended up accepting only ?2M more from Newcastle in the end despite asking Liverpool for an extra ten. They give off the impression they wont sell for any less than they want, but they do always eventually end up caving.

Norwich rejected the offer that came to them on Friday of a loan without obligation, but would accept a loan and the purchase next summer to pay for two seasons, or even more. The English club asks for 20 million pounds and 10 more in variables, but would accept less.

Aarons met Ronald Koeman in Liverpool, at a Norwich league game where he started. At the end of the match, they crossed paths and Koeman commented that he was impressed with the potential of the English footballer.

In fact, if his preference has been Sergi?o Dest it is because he knows him more and has seen him more times. If the American ends up at Bayern, the sports management could make Max Aarons the first option again, as it was before the arrival of the Dutch coach.

Dest is a bit better technically, while Aarons is better physically. Both good prospects, would not mind either.
