A man comes at the doctor and complains he has pains in the liver area. The doctor's name is Valverde M.D. The patient had a small tumor, that if removed, could possibly cure him in several months to a year. But the doctor does nothing. He says to the patient that everything is fine, that he shouldn't worry, pains like that are perfectly normal for every person past a certain age. And the patient stays home for years, ignoring the pain, after all, the doctor said all is okay, and the doctor is supposed to know these things, right?

Then from year to year the patient is feeling worse and worse, until the tumor turns into stage 2 liver cancer. Then doctor Valverde is accused of malpractice, and the patient is transferred to another doctor ASAP.

In comes doctor Setien M.D., who starts chemotherapy straight away, and to tries to save the life of the patient, who now has 30% chances of survival, due to the cancer being discovered in stage 2, instead of early onset.

But... wait... the story is not over. Valverde M.D. shows up with a key witness in court to defend him in the malpractice case. The witness name is Professor BBZ M.D., specialist in medical surgery, with Alma Matter degree at Stat-ford University. According to BBZ M.D., the patient is feeling worse under Setien M.D., than he did when he was consulted by Valverde. So the only possibly conclusion is that Valverde M.D. was a fine doctor, and it's Setien who should be judged for malpractice instead.

Hahaha nice story.

I am not interested in going back to EV discussion but one thing need to be pointed out:
Managers are employees, and just like any employee they are asked to do a certain task.
I highly doubt EV was asked to rebuild or make team younger, if anything it was clear that winning was top priority. He was a coach that supported youth in other clubs he coached without problem but it was clear it wasn't a priority here.
I don't think it is really on him, and I doubt Setien will change that, Because even right now there is no managers who was instructed to rebuild. Board is still trophy and super stars oriented.
Setien could have been a decent hire if we are blowing thing up, but he will be asked to win and win now. Next season is decisive for board with election coming, don't expect the board won't sacrifice anyone who won't camouflage the next season. Be it Abidal/Setien or both.
Barto 6 years tenure had Zubi, Braida (among 3 others) Roberto,Segura, Abidal. With Segura role not even being known up till now. Those had to work with 3 different managers (4 if you count Tata).
It is unrealistic to think we can do both at same time especially with bad scouting, when you don't even consider Mpabbe and go all in for Dembele it speaks a lot on the state of the team. A manager will need some leeway early on for that, considering Bartou fired SD for fun, was almost firing Lucho in his 1st season I doubt EV was given that leeway and Setien won't either.

I don't think we are here because of EV, EV did what his bosses asked him. They wanted trophies and he achieved that. Whether he was good or bad manager is another story but with no authority that is given by board (and no manager can take from them) on transfers, no planning by the board, not even knowing who is the leader of the sporting department you get this mess. A better coach might have camouflaged it better (or quit on them earlier) but we would have reached that point anyway

Highly doubt EV was given strict directives about what and how to do. Doubt people in the board told him to give players frequent days off, and basically be their puppet. I think he was put in a troublesome team and his only way to deal with it was to ignore the problems and work around them. That's what happened imo. We had issues who needed fixing and these issues got delayed and worsened with time, because there wasn't anyone incisive and courageous enough to take them on.

We're not here solely because of EV, but he played his part for sure, and a big one at that. Board - EV - Players in this order for me.

Can this post please be in the gold standard thread? :worthy:

This is not Setiens fault. This mess has been there since Lucho's last season. The board should have cleared club de amigos out and rebooted the team. Instead they went for short term band aid solutions and now we are heading the way of Milan and Utd.

This season will be without trophies. I have accepted that and just hope we won’t get humiliated in the CL.

In the future - I have said it since he was signed - I can’t see it work with Setien and I hope we don’t extend his contract.

Get a young top coach, Ten Haag, Gallardo, Nagelsmann and a sporting department who works with the coach regarding transfers - much like Liverpool.

No Setien after this season please.

Too late, he signed a 2.5 year contract.

Probably not. But these type of coaches from betis, Bilbao, Valencia, Sevilla....these coaches have a mentality different then the top ones, when you coach your whole professional life mediocre teams, how can you coach too teams with UCL aspirations when you barely tasted that competition. Not saying he is a bad coach, just a mediocre one for Barca.... My opinion.

There's no doubt that a top coach gives you more assurances than a coach who is at the first big job in his career, no matter the style.

Ask yourselves this question.

Do you really want these guys to be in charge of appointing a new manager on a long-term deal?

True, not QS fault and I still think he will do better than EV. The guy is hired in midseason and inherited a team with so many issues. Now I don't like his formation and lineup so far but I think he is smart enough to realize that soon.

I say give QS sometimes, this is coming from a guy who wanted Gallardo or Poch as a coach.

QS has inherited a lot of problems. Time will tell whether he can fix them.

Domestically, the team has sucked pretty bad since the turn of the year. Dropped points away to Espanyol in a very horrid game. Lost the supercopa to Athleti in another classic meltdown.

The wins against Granada and Ibiza in Setien’s first games were not very convincing and then today’s defeat we looked toothless. Lots of work to be done.

He's inherited a lot of problems, but he's making it worse by playing this bad system that doesn't suit the players he got.

He simply need to do better.
