Ireland

FIFA is saying the reimbursement of the loan was conditional upon Ireland's qualification for 2014. No qualification, no reimbursement.
Sounds plausible. Anyway the timing was suspicious either way. Irish fans should be furious at their federation surely.

The Irish FA come out of that as bad if not worse than FIFA.

Shafting their national teams right to put forward their case for a bribe.

BBC Sport's Ben Smith

"Ireland saw it as an 'out of court settlement' because they had begun the legal process, rather than a bribe. My reading of this is that it shows the culture at Fifa to use large sums of money to make problems, such as this, go away."

This looks about right to me.

The Irish FA have definitely shot themselves in the foot with this admission, especially after condemning Blatter's presidency.

I'm honestly not that bothered, Delaney and his crew have being a joke for some time now.

“It’s not about money. This is about sporting integrity.” John Delaney, day after Henry handball - Nov 2009.

I wouldn't go that far. They've qualified for a few in the past, and always got out of their group too.

My bad. For some reason I thought it was the first time they qualified

Still, WC place > money

FAI sold out.
