And yet, taking the ball at halfway line and dribbling half of Mourinho Madrid's team, plus busting up Sir Alex Ferguson's United was still his peak imo. That's two of the best managers ever.

Also, the final with Juventus in 2015 wasn't nearly as great of a game from him as Wembley. Wembley is to date his best performance in the most high profile game.

You could maybe have a case about 2014-15 if he played better vs Juventus in Berlin. He did have a good game overall, but it wasn't anything spectacular like on Wembley.

I still remember Alex Ferguson's press conference after the game, saying they never really controlled Messi.

Yeah,he was probably better in 10/11 and 14/15(also in 11/12 and 12/13) than he is now,but let’s not act like 18/19 wasn’t one of his best seasons ever.

The main problem isn’t his stamina(which ofc has deteriorated through the years,but that’s natural).

The main problem is the Messidepencia phenomenon.When the team relied almost exclusively on Leo to produce everything then historically Leo hasn’t been able to deliver consistently and you can’t really blame him.

Look at 12/13 for example or at 16/17.Leo was a beast during both seasons,but the team around him was underperforming.So,in the end,Leo couldn’t carry the team indefinitely.So,this problem isn’t something new,thus it cannot really be attributed to his old age.

The second problem is Leo’s will to win and overcome the obstacles when things went south in the highest stage.This is something relatively new during Leo’s career.There are many examples:
2014 WC final
2015+2016 Copa America finals
Pretty much the whole 2018 WC
2014 “winner takes the League” match against Atletico
2014+2016 CL eliminations vs Atletico
2017 CL tie against PSG
2018 CL catastrophe against Roma
2019 CL catastrophe against Liverpool


Of course there are also countless examples when Messi had great performances against great teams during the last years.But,you get my point.

For example,against Roma and Liverpool,when he saw the team collapsing and the manager standing helpless and clueless on the sidelines,he should have taken a deeper position to help the team control the possession IMO.

Neutral here looking , reading this thread amazed how spoilt, pampered and quite frankly daft some Barcelona fans are. You've had the privilege of watching the best player ever performing super human acts for a decade is a privilege not a luxury. You don't know how good you've had it with this guy.

No player is above criticism but some posters are going way overboard calling out "Messi fanboys" (Nevermind the fact that most if not all Messi fans here are Barca fans too) . Constructive criticism out of the window replaced by arguing for the sake of being contrarian and for attention.

Messi was by far the best Barca player against Liverpool in both legs, scoring twice in the 1st leg and producing Gilt edged chances for Dembele (in Camp Nou) and Suarez at Anfield amongst numerous other chances squandered. And this was in a tie Liverpool dominated from start to finish because your shitheaded coach is a mediocre tactician at best and made you defend deep knowing fully well you don't have the personnel to pull of such a tactic (especially against Liverpool of all fucking teams) and that neither one of your 30+ forwards have the legs anymore to press the opposition defence and midfield. Also, Messi is not 6ft tall to dominate aerially like Ronaldo. In these big Champions league games he needs the ball to feet all the time and thus Barcelona having a certain control of possession.

Barcelona is failing Messi not the other way around. You have comfortably the best player the world has ever seen doing things never before seen on a football pitch for a decade and Some of you have the nerve to rip through him like it's nothing Just need to the shut the fuck up and enjoy the show seriously. Even if he never wins another trophy for Barca You should be building a statue for him outside Camp Nou as we speak. Seriously some of these posters need to stop embarrassing themselves and your club.
