Shouldn't Michael Jordan be quite higher up on the list considering that he owns(or at lest that he is heavily involved) the Jordan brand and he even owns a whole NBA team?

Think they only count active.
Jordan has a 2 billion networth and makes over 190mill a year from his jordan brand alone.

If it only counts active, then how is Michael Jordan still on the list after 2003? He was retired then.

How is any basketball player on the list at all. Very little skill involved in that game. If you are over 6ft 6 you are half way there. If you are over 7ft tall scoring a basket is as easy as throwing a ping pong ball in to a skip.

It's a sport set up to build superstars. One player in basketball can have so much impact on the success of his team compared to any other team sport. Plus refs are always giving superstars easy foul calls.

Add in the fact they that most good basketball teams only have 9-10 decent players means there is a lot of money that doesn't have to be divided up as much.

It's not as bad as American Football which is just a slightly complicated game of catch, or baseball which is glorified rounders but still there is very little skill involved, especially when compared to football.

Looking at this earnings table I'm starting to think footballers are UNDERpaid.
