Lionel Messi - v7

He didn't win one with the Getafe goal? Or goal vs Bilbao in Copa final?! Unbelievable.

I remember Messi went 12 months or so ( maybe more ) without winning La Liga player of the month or week. Not that this should be acknowledged of course. We have to keep the agenda going - Ronaldo is the hard done by victim and Messi is the helped overrated golden child.

It actually took him 3 years to win 1 since it started in 2013.... and he’s only won it 5 times in total. Pretty crazy when you think about it, Messi has completely DOMINATED La Liga.

MESSI

Games: 823
Goals: 671
Assists: 272

PENALDO

Games: 962
Goals: 689
Assists: 218

Messi is ONLY 18 goals behind Ronaldo despite playing 139 less games AND has 54 assists more than Penaldo.

So much for "Greatest goalscorer of all time", Messi is only 18 goals behind... I bet hardcore Penaldo fans are nervous seeing those figures :crbust:

Ronaldo will keep switching to easier leagues to keep up his scoring total. Ronaldo will stay on top.. Shame. My guess.

He will just keep playing and not retire before Messi.
How he has weird facts about his rivalry (like more away goals on cl than Messi) that he can recall instantly when asked shows his obsession in my opinion. He probably has a room in his house where he keeps track of all this.

Not sure how accurate the assist numbers are (surprised that there is not a bigger gap between Messi and C. Ronaldo despite the latter playing 139 games more) but Messi has already beaten C. Ronaldo's tally of 601 club career goals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo

Messi has 2 more club career goals (603).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionel_Messi

BTW I think that those numbers are slightly wrong.

C. Ronaldo has scored 22 more goals for Portugal (this includes all official games with Portugal U-teams) than Messi's goals for Argentina (senior and U-teams goals).

So in total C. Ronaldo have scored 20 more goals.

9 goals less if you include the 9 goals that Messi scored as a Barça C and B player in the Tercera División and Segunda División B.

That is also the tally that Wikipedia is using on this link below that shows the greatest goalscorers in football history.

I don't think so. Messi will be at the top in almost every category when both of them hang up their boots.

Be it team trophies (already the case), individual trophies (already the case) and goals scored and assists. Needless to say goal per minute and assist per minute stats which is already the case as well.

Messi is 3 years younger and I see no signs of Messi slowing down. Messi's last season was better than C. Ronaldo's when he was Messi's age.

I use this as a reference for Messi stats: http://messivsronaldo.net/all-time-stats/

It matches up statistically with whoscored, transfermarkt etc

The Wiki all time list must include goals from elsewhere, not sure where the extra 27 goals for Messi came from, but still to be that close to Penaldo with much less games is something.
