Ernesto Valverde has told his players that he expects them to return on July 14, with the exception of the players who have played at the Copa America. Depending on how far the respective players advanced will depend on what date they begin pre-season.

After the first day of medical examinations and physical tests, Barcelona will start training on July 15. Over that week, they will have plenty of sessions at their training ground before flying out to Japan for their first tour of the summer. The 'FC Barcelona Japan Tour 2019, Presented by Rakuten' which will include two friendlies against Chelsea on July 23 and then Andres Iniesta and David Villa's Vissel Kobe on July 27.

Later, Valverde's side will travel to the United States to play in the 'LaLigaSerie A Cup', which will pit two teams from the two leagues against one another. This year, it is the champion from LaLiga Santander and the runner-up from Serie A.
Barcelona's pre-season calendar: Dates and times of the games

  • Barcelona vs Chelsea (July 23, 12:30 CET)
  • Vissel Kobe vs Barcelona (27 July)
  • Barcelona vs Arsenal (August 4, 20:00 CET)

I'm really interested in seeing what Valverde's approach will be this season in terms of tactics, lineups etc.

If it will be the same old shitty football relying on Messi Magic or if he'll actially attempt to be a bit more daring with his general approach.

After two consecutive fuckups in CL, hopefully he has a change in perspective.

Some of the players are back today. Medical check ups under way.

Ps. I hope Rakitic doesn't check Barca's twitter account. 90% of the comments is just people cussing him out.

I'd like him sold too but that's a bit harsh imo.

Inaki Pena, Oriol Busquets, Riqui Puig, Collado and Carlos Perez are the only B team players joining the first team for their pre-season.

Wague (ACON), Miranda and Abel Ruiz (Euro U-19) are missing due to international duty.

Pretty disappointing to see so few youth players join the first team for the initial part of pre-season. Would of been good experience for the likes of Araujo (best B team defender), Reis (played last season in Eredivisie), Monchu and Hiroki (just because he is ridiculously good looking and we have games in Japan).

Ah, so we lost even that. Last pre-seasons were more exciting that way but now we know why that was now. Valverde simply had to call more youngsters because it was a World Cup year and seniors had extended vacations.

Most of our first team players are back so there is not as much room for the youngsters. We will only play 5 preseason games so players should find a rhytm before season starts. FDJ and Griezmann should also adapt to the team and it's better for them to play with players they'll play with during the season then some kids from B team.

Hiroki and Reis have just arrived to the club so I think it's ok for them first get to know Barça B teammates and coaches before they start to train with the first team. It's still not excluded that Hiroki won't travel with the team to Japan and maybe Reis or another youngster as well if we'll manage to sell Rafinha this week.

It's a shame Wague is not available. It would be great to see him against some good opponents even if it's a preseason.

The pre-season schedule is awful. The team will travel about 45 000km in 3 weeks to play useless friendlies. And why the hell we'll play twice with Napoli in 3 days in two different places in the USA? And the "best" thing is that the team will come back to Barcelona from the USA maybe on Monday (August 12) and the away match against Athletic Bilbao is on Friday (August 16). I hope at least the money from the pre-season is good.

I get what your saying, and incidentally Hiroki has been added to the Japan tour for obvious reasons. I just think that the pre-season stages with a few more B team players is more rewarding and inclusive to motivate their developments. But as you say, with 5 games the scheduling is lacking.
