Less total games would also mean less money which neither the league nor the clubs want. Another option is cancelling CDR next season and playing midweek La Liga fixtures when clubs would usually play Copa games. This would probably be the best solution.

Or do like some leagues with less teams are doing. Play first half of the season (19 games) and then "cut" the league in two halfs. First 10 teams play for the title/European competitions and bottom 10 against the relegation. If every team would play against each opponent in this second half just once the season would have only 28 rounds. But making a fair schedule here would be almost impossible.

E: Ah, I see your other post now where you suggested something similar.
You could also play with 2 or 4 divisions and then a small knock out competition for the best teams from those divisions.

    Radomir Antic died.

He is the only coach who has managed Barca, Atleti and Real.

    RIP

Spanish commission comprising the Spanish Federation (RFEF), La Liga and the representatives of the Players' Union (AFE) has released an official statement on how the remainder of 19/20 season will look if it can take place in July-August.

Matches will be squeezed into a series of games every 3 days and each half will be stopped at least twice for water breaks due to Iberian summer heat. La Liga were pushing for games every 48 hours which was agreed with the AFE, but ultimately all sides agreed on extending the period of rest in between fixtures. It is said that if the heat gets too ridiculous, matches could be postponed irrespectively. It is expected the 11 remaining fixtures will result in season finishing by mid-September, provided agreement is reached with UEFA on the continuation of European fixtures in that same period.

It is worth noting there are yet unresolved disputes regarding players' contracts, which end on 30th June. The AFE do not agree with automatic extensions which would allow the season to be finished. RFEF however point to FIFA imposed regulations which state that contracts will be extended as appropriate to allow the 19/20 season to be finished and that the priority is for players to remain in employment for their current club until the season finishes. If a player has already signed on to join a different team from 1st July 2020, this agreement according to FIFA regulations is to be postponed until the end of 19/20 season of a given club.

I dont think theres any sporting value in playing matches this late, in this frequency and without proper match fitness. Will be random as hell.

Not sure there is a better solution. Unless we want to have literally half a 20/21 season. Which La Liga won't agree to because they want the TV dolla'.

It is either that or cancelling the whole season IMO.
The whole "season should be continued even if ended in 2021"is ridiculous. If you can manage to continue sport in summer then great, if not then take your loss and prepare for future seasons.

How do you 'take your loss'? If the pandemic extends beyond summer no doubt they'll cancel/modify 2020/21 further to accommodate 19/20. Past results can't be voided to accommodate the next season. All you can do is change the rules of next season's competition to cope with delays.

Says anybody's sense of morality. It's messed up in just about any circumstance where club futures across the league pyramids are at stake.

That is nonsense, it has nothing to do with morality. Never mind fucking up already signed contracts of current employees is actually far worse morally.
If season doesn't resume in summer, that means 6 months break midseason, it is nonsense to think that the later results of the season will have anything related to the teams that were playing 6 months ago. You think a team like Lazio will have the same ryhthm they had before? come on now.
The season will be practcically over and it will be a joke to try to resume it at this point. I mean it is even worse in your example, if situation isn't even cleared deep in the statting time of next season, so we should resume the league in March 2021 and crown 2019-2021 champion? force players whose contracts is over to add extra year in their contracts?
Never mind it will mess football schedule for foreseeable future, we will still lose season anyway no matter how you put it in such case.
They have every right to fight to resume the league asap, but at some point it won't be the logical move.

Contracts are implicitly signed with a termination date the day before the start of a given transfer window. There's no reason why players should be cross with the situation. FIFA agree as well. We wouldn't be talking about anybody being 'forced' to fulfil the terms of their deal had a pandemic not taken place and some other extenuating circumstances caused the delay. It's a contract where only a dishonest person would claim they want to leave the team on a hard-set date and time irrespective of what's happening.

If season doesn't resume in summer, that means 6 months break midseason, it is nonsense to think that the later results of the season will have anything related to the teams that were playing 6 months ago. You think a team like Lazio will have the same ryhthm they had before? come on now.
What does this matter? Teams are playing on preset rules which should by all means be kept in place to keep the integrity of the competition which determines team's position in a given league for 20/21 and hence the players salaries, bonuses, benefits and goals. I don't give a shit if Lazio have had 6 months since their good run, it's their job to keep focus and physical shape, everyone is affected the same by this.

if situation isn't even cleared deep in the statting time of next season, so we should resume the league in March 2021 and crown 2019-2021 champion? force players whose contracts is over to add extra year in their contracts?
Yes, absolutely, only determining the final positions of the teams fairly and without sacrificing anybody's past efforts after 19/20 allows us to determine the fairest commencement of the following season. If it means 20/21 has to be cancelled in that scenario you've quoted it's the only moral thing to do. Crown 19/20 champion in March 2021, have Euros take place in the summer and resume 21/22 with the tables as determined by the positions from 19/20.

There is seldom any scenario anyone should void anybody's efforts from this season and thus make an executive decision to determine the composition of leagues in 20/21 as if nobody played a minute since June 2019.

My man @Wolfe vehemently arguing for a 19/20 season finish because it's the best chance Madrid have of a league title in years.
