4 - Ronald Araújo

Araujo can do some through balls and long passes but his biggest issue is his composure at building out the back especially when being pressed and even his clearances need more work as he just keeps booting it even when he's not in any danger.

He can improve in that area but it's pretty tough.

To be fair, his passing lanes are diminished if Busquets tactically moves to a back 3 to provide the build up.

That is one passing triangle removed.

Araujo lacks on the ball but his problems yesterday seemed more systematic.

Lenglet is trusted more to exit the ball but if you watch his actions, his options were also limited and not really progressive.

We can improve on team level even more than he can improve individually though. Our CBs are often left with few options because Busi is an aging turtle, and Koeman directs the other two midfielders upwards to join the attack, both Pedri and De Jong play more like AMs than central midfielders. There is no one doing the role of Xavi in the past, which was to show up for passes deeper and relieve the pressure on our defenders. So, often, the team has a pretty low midfield presence. When Busi is dropping low, it's even worse.

You're welcome
I am sold on him. Not so much on Mingueza. Latter needs to resort to fouls too often to fix his mistake.

He should be top of the all current Barca's CBs in the pecking order.
And the question should be who to buy to build a partnership with him for the years to come.
(and that obviously wouldn't be Garcia)

Why not? Not commenting on quality, but just looking at playing types its the classic formula (1 physical CB+1 positional/technical CB).

Because he is slow and unatheltic.
Araujo is fast and athletic, but precisely regarding pace in modern football you cannot afford even 1 slow CB..
An ideal partner for Araujo will be Alaba or someone like Alaba, who is fast and technical, even if lacking in aerial abilities

+ fucking weak

In his 16 Premiere League appearances (small sample size, I know):
- his tackle success is 45%
- he has won 34 duels and lost 44 = 43,59% success rate
- he has won 13 aerials out of 40 = 32,5% success rate

I don't care about passing and ball playing-abilities if a defender can't defend to save his life. Only defending skill he seems to be decent at is intercepting the ball. Now we can say he is still young and can bulk up, but even other young CBs like Neco Williams or Wesley Fofana have a winning percentage of more than 50% in all of the above

Can't wait to see him get tested against PSG. I feel so safe whenever he's defending. Been a while since we had a CB like that.
