Then why do Madrid players play like shit in La Liga and suddenly kick into another gear once CL knockouts start?

Perenial issue with Messi was handled by Lucho. Lucho wanted him on the right, at RW and he played on the right. Again, signs that is a managerial problem. Valverde is using Messi very poorly in the big games.

Why? Precisely because they choose to? With a squad who won enough you can only hope they care to turn up. This is consistently what managers say since the beginning of time, from SAF to Di Matteo. Everyone's success is as chequered as anyone else's.
Most of the first 11 didn't even carry us to that Liga in 2017. It's exactly what things look like when you rely on stars. You think Zidane did anything special to motivate them for the CL? Lol. All he does is say the simplest things that correct the situation when things aren't going well and manouver round minutes given to keep them happy. The former is where Valverde failed and done so only once, mostly because he had no respect. Lucho did. If your demand is to get a man manager that will have a name big enough to shout at Messi then you're not even consistent enough in what you're asking since you repeatedly say you want Sarri or Setien because even they'd be better choices than EV. Klopp never worked with made names. Koeman is the only logical choice, as limited a tactician as he is.

I think Arsenal now has better chances for TOP 4 than Chelsea and United. But of course they will lose points with outsiders as well.

It's so easy to stop Chelsea's Midfield from functioning. All you have to do is man mark Jorginho and it's done.

It amazes me how useless he is when being marked. Can't fight out of it for shit it seems.
