Real Madrid owned Atleti in the cl. Can anyone explain that?

Also that was a much better team than this current one.

RM got lucky in both finals. First final Costa their best player got injured in the 9th min, Arda was injured, and even then they were the better team for 92 minutes. In the second final, RM scored from offside, while Atleti missed a penalty, and they lost on penalties while again being the better team, not mentioning the disgrace of schedule RM had in the CL, even EL teams had harder opponents.

The only time they owned them was after 2016, before that Atleti was the better team, just unlucky.

A bit late, but regarding Atletico-Liverpool: can we finally stop rambling about a plan B or talking about outdated football? EVERY team can lose against a team like Atletico. Doesnt matter if you are prime Barcelona, Madrid or Liverpool. Which in consequence means its just about building the best possible team. Its really that simple.

Before someone mentions that Liverpool created chances, true, but so did Guardiolas Bayern against Atletico back then (was even more onesided) - the narrative was different though.

All this talk about Plan Bs and Cs is mostly just noise.

Atletico, if they are on song or a bit lucky, have been formidable in both Spain & Europe since Simeone took them over.

Atleti since Diego Simeone took over, remember, they were mostly a joke before that:

- Winning the EL by achieving 9 consecutive wins (all wins home and away) against Lazio, Besiktas, Hannover, Valencia and 3-0 against Bilbao in the final.

- Thrashing Chelsea in the ESC by 4-1.

- Finishing 3rd behind monstrous Barca & Real sides in 12/13 (best Atleti finish in 17 years)

- Winning the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid & Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu, their first Copa since 1996 (when Simeone was their player)

- Breaking Barca-Real duopoly in a classic La Liga season in 13/14. Barca failed to beat them in 6 straight games (super-cup, La Liga and Champions) I am not aware of any team on the planet that could avoid defeat to 13/14 Barca in 6 straight games.

- Finished top of CL group (5 wins, 1 draw) then thrashed AC Milan, eliminated Barca, beat Mou's Chelsea 1-3 at the Bridge and were ahead against Ancellotti's Real Madrid until injury time in the CL final. The Ramos happened.

- In 15/16. they had the best defense in all of the Big Leagues, and eliminated both Barca & Bayern en route to the final, where they lost on penaldos to Real Madrid.

- In 16/17 they finish ahead of Bayern in their group, reach the semis where they lose again to their CL bette noire in Real Madrid.

- In 17/18, they finish 2nd ahead of Ronaldo's Real Madrid, and win the EL with ease. Their only scare en route to the EL title was when they had to play with 10 men against Arsenal from the 10th minute. They still managed to escape with a 1-1 draw from London.

- In 18/19, they beat Real Madrid for the ESC, and again finish 2nd the league only behind Messi's Barca.

- 19/20, everybody is afraid of Liverpool and Anfield. Atleti beat them both home and away and bring them down to earth.

Lets be honest AM were very lucky to survive at Anfield The idea that it was some sort of masterclass of defending is ludicrous. They couldn't get out of their own half for allmost the whole game. If the Liverpool strikers had been in normal form that game would have finished 4or 5 zero.. The Liverpool GK was a disaster and until he messed up AM were beaten

Of course they were, but when it happened vs Guardiolas Bayern the narrative was that hes tactically naive, shoolboys, lack of physicality, outdated football and so on. The truth is there are fine margins.

Would normally be an event for me, now, everything to do with football and Barca has become so meh and passe. Bartomeu is such an asshole.

Bayern must be salty that the competition is like a month away, if it was held now i would hold them as favorites.
