There's a difference between appearing to value and respect someone, professionally, and acting as if you're their poodle. He doesn't appear strong and firm. He made it sound as if he works for Xavi more than the other way around.
As a president, you're always supposed to transmit to the electors that you're in charge, and you got this covered. That you're the man to save the ship. That's why they vote for you, not somebody else.
The team is important, but being president is about showing you have what it takes to have real power in your hands. Font directed all this capital of power and desirability from himself (which he needed to stand a chance and get elected) to Xavi.
