Why are people so obsessed with the Champions League?

I wonder if Liverpool legend Stevie Gerrard would have agreed to base advancement of his club to the Final on such a dubious 4th goal, facilitated by a Ballboy

Andrew M, can you define the meaning of 'GUFF'? Certainly nothing for Englismen to be proud of!

In this sense, a load of old nonsense.

Fact is, our players were clearly suffering a recurrence of trauma from previous away thrashings and as such completely shit the bed on that corner.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this but after the game it was revealed that the sporting staff of Liverpool had studied beforehand and observed that we have a tendency to be a bit dopey on corners. Therefore, while utterly humiliating and embarrassing given the venue and stage, it was an example of how we were out-prepared by Liverpool and a fitting way for them to beat us because it demonstrated that it was their mental approach, strength and courage that beat us.

Again, if English clubs still felt that fair play was part of the game, Liverpool would have refused to take advantage of a deceptive play enabled by a ballboy.
A half-way decent Captain of Liverpool would have refused to win based on such a ridiculous deception.

calling the ballboy deception "strength and courage" is a joke. It was nothing but CHEATING

What about it wasn't fair? The referee had commenced play and our players were sleeping. Liverpool outwitted us. If it was illegal the ref would have disallowed it. Interesting that you talk about fair play within the English game in a week where match fixing has been proven in La Liga this season.

I maintain that the spectators (including all TV channels carrying the game) were deprived of a 2x15 min extension.
Barça won 3:0 at home despite some good Liverpool chances.
Liverpool won 4:0 because of a a shameful ballboy enabled joke of a fourth goal, despite at least 4 Barça chances to score (Suarez, Coutinho, Alba, Messi).
The right way to decide this contest would have been to play a 2x15 min extension.
4:0 was definitely not a fair result.

Anyway, that's how it goes.
Football produces strange and unexpected and sometimes PAINFUL outcomes.

The 4th goal was indeed a joke, but on our players' part only. Why do you keep talking about the ballboy? All teams have ballboys. The referee had allowed play. I don't see any ethical ambiguity here. All our team had to do was be alert to danger. But instead they had a mental lapse. What you're arguing is equivalent to claiming that losing a game on a terrible goalkeeping mistake is an unworthy conclusion. I know it is not the most romantic or dramatic finale to a two legged contest but at that level such asininity at corners gets punished.

You don't seem to recognise this as part of the game. If the referee is ready then Liverpool are not obliged to wait for our players to finish their daydreaming to take the corner.

4th goal was like the screwy climax of a who-would've-thought/believe-it-or-not cock-a-dot plot :rap:
An after-school corner trick being the final straw breaking Joe Camp Nou's back
So it was fitting in a surreal, cruel way, like the final piece of a twisted puzzle or like an In ur Face wham bam thank you mam ex-glam point!

Anyway you cut it, we got played straight up.

sure, going in extra-time would've been like the championship rounds but team walked straight into that last blow with gloves down and willy wonkas hangin.
Can't fault Liv for that and call foul play. They waz in war! guerilla style with a lesser qual squad and 3 goals down.
Yellow submarines sank into PTSD quicksand mind-set like Boba Fett in the Sarlacc pitt

Yes it was a joke but a legit 1 and 4th goal was the punch-line
Got caught off-guard by a soccer punch _ legal though since ref had blown the whistle

same way as Cortez had called Time In

Bar Leo and Vidal Sassoon, whole team was snoozin with the bomb's fuse runnin ♫♪♩
Ballon D'Or-iggy Pop switch into kickin'it Impossible mode and in that 1 sec, CL went Bye Bye, Lights Out :stretcher:
