He does not have the brute speed to chase down fast forwards unlike Semedo.
I never said he was good, but it’s his best position. He was very poor at right midfield against Roma.

While this is usually true, it's not the full picture. Ben Yedder is a very slow player (Muriel is not) and countering with him is impossible. Also, Ben Yedder has his share of misses and a poor ratio in La Liga. Sevilla will counterattack so he's a better (and more logical) choice.
That said, Muriel has played under Montella before and is quite good at buildup.
