Abidal is the new technical secretary of the club.

While what you say is true, Griezmann is a market opportunity as well as a fantastic player, Eriksen was for the longest time considered the alternative until Thiago recently became available.

Neither have anything in common...

If your vision is 4-3-3 then your prime targets would be midfielders. If it is 4-2-3-1 then it would be an additional forward... Where is the plan? It seems that the plan is sign players first before deciding direction instead defining your direction and signing players that will take it forward.

Regarding last year, it's all good and well you bring up Verratti and Coutinho but what about the Seri mess, the Paulinho signing from left field, chasing Di Maria to the last second... This is excluding the lack of outgoing players which is as much of a problem. Maybe even more because other clubs are aware of our need to sell and WILL low ball or only request loans. The situation is such that you sell at reduced value or refuse and continue with an oversized squad just leeching on the tit of high wages. The club doesn't win.

Suarez should be offloaded now while he still has a little to offer otherwise we sit with another leech until at least 2021.

What players are you saying have nothing in common?

The likes of Serri and Paulinho are not linked.

Fairly obvious why there was a late move for Di Maria even if wrong player.

Abidal will not be responsible for any signings or anything related to money. He's just going to be a figurehead for the team and dressing room.

Pep Segura is still in charge of everything else.....

None of Griezmann, Eriksen and Thiago have anything in common so how can either be an alternative to the other? Eriksen was always this boards alternative should the Griezmann deal not materialise. Now they’re apparently looking into Lemar too...

And yes they are linked to club because the Seri operation was a complete mess, Paulinho’s signing came from nowhere and Di Maria which as you say was the wrong player was pursued until the last second.

It shows there was no planning whatsoever... You don’t flip flop, basically get the signing complete, then pull out and sign a completely different profile all the while chasing a player who’s club refused all advances only to settle for the Madrista that said the only way to shut up the Camp Nou would be to bomb it.

That type of indecision with regard to transfers can’t be excused.

So... what will exactly be his role? Different from Robert's?

He won't make any signings and likely travel to see players. I think he'll be traveling with the squad to every game and do the media, PR thing while Segura takes care about the squad planning.

The players dont have to have anything in common for them to be on list of players that board believe can improve Barca.

Griezmann is a value alternative in a position Barca are going to need very soon to replace so should try to take it now.

Thiago fits in with the club wanting a top CM, as tried to get him last year and he seems to be on the market again. That doesn mean if he doesnt come then absolutely have to still try to sign a striker this summer.

Eriksen I doubt there is much to it but if there is it will most likely be that Coutinho is seen as a forward player and possibly they see him being able to cover CM - which he doesnt at moment.

The right decision was made on Seri in end and that had nothing to do with signing Paulinho. If anything Artur is being brought in place of that squad role that Seri was looked at for.

Clubs have a number of players in positions they would like to take in. It doesnt work that they always decide need a striker and go down list until get one.

It is not the random grab for stars that some try to make out. Clubs have a number of positions they know need replaced now and in future.

Doesnt show a lack of planning it shows a lack of understanding how clubs work towards transfers.

Abidal shouldn't take it up.

So obvious they want a popular name or figure to hide behind.

Don't think it's a bad idea to have someone like Abidal with the squad, though. Might be what we need.

On the other hand, should wait to see what power he'll be given. Hope it's significant. Doubt early rumors.

Personally, I'm okay with Abidal working in that department, getting experience and then possibly putting him in a greater position of power in the future.

He really shouldn't be given too much power with signings as he has no experience in that area.

True, but get another person to teach Abidal.

Just sack Segura already, ffs.
