Paulinho

Behrox

Vice President of FC Barcelona
BBZ8800 we all know you've been paid by the board to make Paulinho appear logically acceptable instead of dissecting the shit outta him like you'd normally would have done. Come clean

I agree with what has been said. We need to control the ball more. If we control the ball as we should, there is less need for a player who can wrestle with opponents to get it back. Why think negativistic and plan for what we should make sure it doesn't happen often in the first place? Control the ball in midfield and we become stronger. These idiots are trying to make us play PL style football.

You are contradicting yourself.
You can't have a possession based team or any team who will control a ball a lot, if you have players like Neymar and now Deulofeu in attack.
As I have wrote 100s of times on Neymar's thread, his style of play is to kill the action in 15 seconds.
Some of you may reply: it is not. He is forced to play that way because we don't have a midfield, so that's the only thing he can do.
Well, he played the same way for Santos, Barca and NT team. And only one out of those 3 had Lucho.
So, he is NOT playing that way because of Lucho and because of our poor midfield but because=that's his style of play.
And now, we will have even Deulofeu, who will do a lot of the same things as Neymar.

And now, even if you had 3 Xavis in midfield, you CAN'T control the ball for too long since whenever Ney and Deulo will get the ball, the action will be dead.
Either with us scoring (less often) or with them losing the ball after 2-10 seconds.

So, if you want a midfielder who can control our play, what's the point when the rest of the team is built for a run and gun foorball?

To some extent, I would dare to say, as long as you have Neymar (and now Deulofeu) in our team, a player like Paulinho can help and contribute more than a player like Seri.
On the other hand, if we would sell Neymar/Deulofeu and turn to Pedro type of wingers who keep the ball and pass it around without too much risk and dribbles, then a guy like Seri would be a perfect fit for that team and we could pass the ball around for 5 minutes like in the old days and wait for the perfect moment for a final deadly pass and shot.

You can't have a mixture of both: a midfield who will control the ball and play a technical football and then attackers who will kill the attack in 4 out 5 actions when you pass a ball to them.

It isn't a coincidence that Brasil actually plays well with Neymar as a leader (who is dribbling all the time) and guys like Paulinho fixing the damage and passing the ball back to Neymar as fast as possible.

Of course you can. Neymar is a mature player. He will respect the instructions of the manager. He won't go on solo runs if not told to do so. Neymar's style of play in 2014-15 was different from what we've seen this season. The midfield was working fine that season, and we had Alves and Messi on the right, so we did not try to play a lot on the left, like we did this last season.

You can play MSN on in better positions by choosing when the release the pass from midfield, and when to recirculate the ball. Nobody says that you have to pass the ball to them as soon as possible no matter how well or how difficult their position is. This did not happen with Lucho this season. We played Neymar every single time the pass was possible, precisely because we relied on his dribbling to create a way through.

The quality of service to MSN has been poor. They were left alone to try to do something based on their magic skills. This didn't work as well as planned, because their motivation has also dropped a bit, their form has also been a bit off at important times, and because teams have figured out how to stop Lucho's football.

dont know man, Vermaelen signing was shady as hell, all the doctors warned against signing him, yet they annouced that he "passed his medical" lol

Vermaelen was purely Zubi's signing.

Paulinho will be a starter.
We are not chasing him like crazy to have him as a 5th pick behind Rakitic, Iniesta, Roberto, Rafinha and other guys.

14M a back then is like 30-35 today.
So, Keita wasn't cheap either.

I will be a party breaker.
Even though I don't think that Paulinho is a world class, imo, he is still better than Rakitic and Roberto in defending and aggression.
Rakitic plays like an old man for the last 18 Months. NOT only because of Lucho. He was equally as horrible for Croatian NT team in the last 18 months, running like a turtle on a field.

About Roberto, Paulinho is taller and (way) stronger.
Not to mention one more time that Roberto has low Cm experience and played 20-30 times as a Cm for Barca in the last 3 years.

As time passes, I can, to some extent understand why we want Paulinho.
Our all midfielders are of the same mold, or are of the squad level:
1. Iniesta: physically weak always. Currently old, can't run. Not a physical guy
2. Rakitic: somewhat physical guy, but lost a lot of his skills due to age and not being able to run like crazy anymore. On paper, a physical hardworker. In reality: way past his best days.
3. Rafinha: physically weak. Injured all the time. Skill level: squad level.
4. Gomes: on paper he is a taller guy. In reality, he is weak in duels and a horrible fit for Barca.
5. Denis: have a physical strength of a 13 years old teengirl. Skill level: it is even questionable whether he is a squad level for Barca?
6. Arda: an old granny, can't run anymore.
7. Samper: a sloppy guy. Far from a physical Casemiro-Paulinho guy
8. Roberto: currently a midfielder who can run the most. But defensively not as good and not as aggressive as Paulinho. Also, Paulinho is taller and stronger. Roberto is also quite suspicious in attack.

All in all, all of our current midfielders are either physically weak (good old technical-short Barca's midfielders).
And a few guys who are somewhat stronger (Rakitic, Gomes) are either old or don't know how to use their strength (Gomes).

So, to some extent, Paulinho really is a different type of a player.
Whether he will improve us is, that is a question.
But out of current midfielders (except Roberto), more or less it feels as if you are playing the same player (with a different name) over and over.

Can't believe but I agree with you.

He's trying to find Braida who got lost in Turin trying to sign Pogba

No, he's there waiting for Juve to sign Verratti so he can start "monitoring" him. :braida:
