Paulinho

Not as simple as saying his job is to 'be a midfielder'.

That doesnt describe the job he is being given by Valverde.

Clearly the one person who matters in Valverde belives he is doing the job he asks of him more often than some on here would like to think.

As if folk are serious if ever claim GOAT or PauGod.

Infact see those terms used far more by the 'haters' than anyone else.

He got into the team when we were short of depth due to injuries and a lack of midfield transfers in the summer and we went on a great run. Correlation does not imply causation and if Gomes had been starting in place of Paulinho I'm sure our results wouldn't change all that much if at all. Coaches usually don't like to tinker with a winning formula and Paulinho happened to be a part of it. That doesn't change the fact that there are better options available. He'll be the first one to be sat on the bench if things start going south.

What injuries was that? Plenty midfielders for most of the season as well.

He got in as he was signed to bring something different and has done at times which has been a positive.

Yes it would be different as Gomes and Paulinho play almost polar opposite roles and can only judge on what players have done on the pitch anyway.

Paulinho helped to create that winning formula in a number of those games.

He is not gteed to be a starter but the way folk make out he would be useless even if scoring winners and hat tricks is not correct. He has a role to play and already has played it and hopefully can continue to bring those moments and games.

As I've said before he shouldn't be used in Rakitić role but it was clear that Raki needed rest and with Gomes out we didn't have other options. That said, absolutely pointless to criticise anyone performance yesterday. They are footballers not water polo players.

Actually, on that field, Gomes would've put the ball in the roof of the net instead of putting it in row Z, because the water would basically make him mishit it.

Those 40m€ could have been used to sign a young talented midfielder. Especially considering the deal happened before PSG and Neymar inflated the market 40m is way too much for him. Even now he isn't worth anywhere near 40m. Lucas Moura who is a younger and better player was sold for only 25m£ and this after the market Inflation.

Would guess they were not looking for a young talented midfielder but experience and know what they are getting.

Not really worth 40m but wouldnt be suprised if get a lot of that back in move back to China in couple years.

Lucas Moura fee is no more relevant than 40m + flops from past two windows.

There were better options if they wanted an experienced player. In the same window Matuidi went to Juventus for half the price of Paulinho and he is a much better midfielder and perfect for Vaverde's midfield as a second pivot.
And I doubt you can get half of what you for him in a couple of years or even next summer.

Matuidi plays nothing like Paulinho has at Barca or does for Brazil.

Paulinho was not bought to play that second pivot role.

Get half back on him after a couple decent years would be fine.

They wanted a midfielder who provides balance and that's the opposite of what Paulinho does.

Valverde played Paulinho more than once in a 3 MF configuration and in this case it is mandatory to provide balance otherwise you will create holes in midfield, which Paulinho does often.

If you want to use Paulinho role in brazil NT you need to play with 4 MF to counterbalance his mouvements forward. Taking into consideration his quality he is not worth the sacrifice. Knowing that we already have a better suited player for this. Roberto.

Paulinho will not go for more than 12M stop dreaming jamdav

Like I've said in another thread. This is not a problem when Messi plays in the 4-3-3 because Messi becomes that extra body in midfield and they feed off each other.

Can't wait for him to be introduced in the game. Watch out for the moments Valverde gives instruction to Paulinho.

This might sound harsh, considering he wasn't on for long, but I thought he was really poor. Again. Really don't get the love for him.
