Paulinho

Looked poor today.
But the problem was the whole midfield: Iniesta-Rakitic-Paulinho-Coutinho can't work.
Valverde's experiment failed

He is still much better than those guys. Not close. His finishing ability is worth more than those guys combined.
His finishing ability is nothing special as we have seen today and on other occasions.
He just get's in scoring position more often than other midfielders because he spends a lot more time close to opponent's goal.
When it works it's great you score a goal when it doesn't you have a dangerous counter.

It's not even all his fault for tonight's performance. He has his limitations and strengths and that's fine. But when you already have 4 players who like to attack free spaces, he is not needed as the space he'd run into usually was already occupied. Not to mention Rakitic also likes to move forward from time to time so we had 6 players running into each other for long periods of the game. Put Paulinho beside Messi and Suarez w/o the others and he would contribute way more. Also have at least 1 or 2 mids behind him at any time.

He's got different strengths, but I can't see how his overall level is unquestionably higher when he puts in absolutely useless performances like tonight. His finishing isn't even very good.

Yeah sure Paulinho who has 8 goals so far is in the same level as Arda which is the laziest guy to ever play for Barca , Denis who has almost 0 impact in everything almost everytime he plays or Gomes who averages 1 key passes per 11 games and has 1 assist in 21 games played so far this season .

Just because he has performed for 15 out of 20 matches doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticized, ever. Even Suarez who has done a metric fucktone more than him over the years was criticized(and rightly so) but god forbid the legend Paulinho gets some flack here and there. Also means that we are haters. Fuck off!

How many strawman arguments is it possible to get in one post?

That takes some beating.

Who says no one should criticize him ? He's had a bad game and that's that. It's one thing to say he was pretty bad in this game , which is true , and it's another thing to put him in the same league as Arda , Denis and Gomes...call him trash / dogshit which is pretty disrespectful and totally unfair considering how he's played so far this season.

That's true. I, personally, never compared him with these players. Arda was a waste of space and so is Gomes usually. Denis contributed here and there but still very poor and way below Paulinho. Still think he needs to slow down a bit when there are so many players bombing forward. He should have the the experience to understand that from time to time he should act more like a CM than a forward.
