They were defending with 10 players sitting back and we still managed to creat some chances. He fought for the ball, kept possesion, was threath in the air and covered a lot of space. Would like to see him start alongside Roberto, youger and faster than Iniesta and still a creative player. Think Roberto Sergio Paulinho would do a great job. Denis Messi Deulofeu. Shoud be a beautiful game.

Rakitic is the safest Midfield player we have and that's actually saying a lot considering we have Gomes. 
Every now and then he would have a good long pass and maybe a through ball once in a blue moon but he's pretty much safe player and that's what annoys a lot of us because he's a passenger who's slower than a turtle and won't take many risks.
It actually reminds me of Roberto during the first part of 2014/15 when he got mins in the midfield. Every time he was subbed in or played in general he was mentally afraid of doing anything other than a sideways pass or a Backward pass and got a lot of shit by us for it.
Paulinho might not have great technicality but what stands out from him and Rakitic is mentality and Drive. Paulinho wants to go out there and prove that he can in fact play for Barcelona and work hard overall for the time.
Rakitic won the treble and double and that was it. He is also limited himself but at least in the second half of the treble season and part of the double season he at least looked like he gave a fuck but nowadays he doesn't seem to have that drive anymore.

I think Rakitic could work if Valverde doesn't play Busquets with him. Busquets & Rakitic together is just too much turtleism and backward-/sideways passing.

We can live without Rakitic but without Busi we are boned.
The current setup with Messi+Suarez Iniesta-Busi-Rakitc is currently suicidal. Messi and Suarez don't track back and having a slow immobile Midfield with Iniesta-Busi-Rakitic trying to defend for them is like trying to win a race with a car that has 500 less HP than the rest of the field.

Yes, Barca have never bought crap. Gomes, Arda, Vermaelen, Douglas, all great buys.

We could and would have beaten Atletico had he played at least a full half, had a great game against Olympiacos and then he stays on the bench so Rakitic can play.

The small amount of time he came on you feel as things finally started moving again. Him and Roberto gave the Midfield a lot of energy that it was missing.
Seems predictable these days, our slow low energy Midfield always becomes more energetic once Paulinho and like Roberto as well today and things finally start moving.
