And then you whin about him not experimenting with different formation in unofficial games . Jees

Removing our biggest goalscoring threat away from a goal is good?

Playing Coutinho in a RCM is good?

This is not experimenting. This is trying to recreate MSN Barca, which is stupid. Plus playing one of the best LCM/LW's in the world out of position is just stupid.

Will see at the end of the season whether your assessment was right or whether Ev was right in trying out him in wings ;) It's not as if Messi is a goal scoring threat as a false nine . He will only drop further to pick the ball . In wings it won't be the case .

I just wish this guy would try things in these meaningless matches .

I'd love to see Messi as a deep lying CF just behind Malcom and Dembele ..

It's not Messi. He is great wherever he plays. It's the team structure. Messi's going to the middle/dropping deep hurts the team less if he plays centrally than on the wing. Most of the time, it will be only Roberto or Semedo by themselves on the right flank. Also it raises dependancy on Suarez's scoring, which is not great lately.

When Messi plays RW our attacking structure looks like this:

---------------------Suarez-----------------------
Alba--Dembele-------Messi------------Bob/Sem
---------Coutinho--------------------Rakitić-----

Which leads to all of our attacks going through our left side. Also important to note is that the midfield trio is streched, so effectivenes of the midfield triangle is brought down.

Last year we played:
--------Suarez---------------Dembele--
-Alba-------------Messi-------Bob/Sem
--------Coutinho-------Rakitić----------

This setup is much better in terms of players position and distribution of the ball across the final third, which was terrible in both Supercopa and Gamper.

What Valverde has done is devolve all of his work from the beginning of the last season back into Lucho's 4-3-3.

Wouldn't Suarez just drift to the right allowing dembele to be more the left forward instead of the right?

No, he played right in the center and if anything, he prefers to go to the left side, because he is right footed. He played most of the last season as LST/LWF and it worked great.

Great post! What are you? Valverde's lawyer? Most of your posts and all you do in this forum is to defend EV, nothing more and nothing less.

He is currently Barca manager . I would even defend trump if he manages Barca one day . You can fuck off or choose to ignore if you don't like my posts . I have defended Ev , Rakitic , Mats (2015) and many other players who gets slaughtered here left right center . call me a lawyer for those players . I don't give a ratass

Doesn't matter who plays #9, because there will always be a hole on RW and we won't be able to stretch the opponent. We could do that in 14/15, because of brilliance of Dani Alves. But now, no way.
We can if Semedo is up for it :) Rakitic and Vidal is there to cover for Semedo /Messi

If Rakitić/Vidal cover the right wing, there is the problem of disjointed midfield play. Coutinho and Rakitić (the two CM's) are too far apart and our midfield play is destroyed. Also, if we are dispossesed, we are doomed.

Rakitic did the same job in Rw during treble season . Its up to Busi to do the rest along with Coutinho in Iniesta's position

We don't have the intensity as we had under Lucho anymore. We don't have Dani Alves anymore. We simply don't play fast. Our players are older. Suarez most likely won't score 50 this season.

Valverde should find his own solution and not copy Lucho's 4 year old ideas, which are already found out. And especially not play a lot of the players out of position. We are devolving instead of evolving right now. And that's just stupid.

Yes, but you're ignoring Messi has been most effective coming from the right. If we can make it worth (which I doubt: lol:), it's definitely worth trying.
