Ernesto Valverde - V1

Maybe we could play an offensive game like this in our home games in CL.

Don't concede away, kill off at home. Valverde master tactician.

0-0 away isn't the greatest of results. Concede a late goal and it's 1-0 which is bad. Concede another and it's basically disastrous.

You need the away goal.

Well today, Suarez did a lot of pressing. A lot.

Messi was also defending quite a bit more than usually (but started walking in the 2nd half).

Despite still being a 4-4-2 on paper it's pretty much a completely different formation when you take out Paulinho for Dembele. Could actually work; it allows both Messi and Suarez to be in the center.

This is the best the team has played in awhile.

Sure Girona played a open game with a risky Highline, But today's lineup had pace and creativity that has been missing for awhile now.

Exactly and finally we were quick in counter attacks. Girona struggled to defend vs us because we were so quick, but with Chelsea roster we are moving like snails and they have all the time in the world to get back to defense and defend well. Today we made sure Girona was in hurry, all the time.

This is how Barcelona should play. Of course today Girona played very offensive game, so we looked better but this is type of football you want to watc!

The XI that we played today, I think everyone and probably Valverde himself was visioning since the post Neymar deal.

Coutinho in for Iniesta, Dembele being Ney's replacement and Semedo being our RB. But there were quite a bit of bumps in the road however. We bought Dembele in but he was sidelined by a bad injury for months.

Everyone knows about the Coutinho saga, we couldn't get him in August but we had to wait until January to finally sign him. And Semedo was in and out of the team. Today showed that vision I think many of us were waiting for and it looked great. It sucked though we lost Semedo to an injury.

Either way I want to see this team more often. It had the pace, Creativity and other things that have been missing for awhile now.

next season with Dembele hopefully integrated and Coutinho being able to play in the CL, we should be easily favourites to win everything going. Valverde has done well with the limitations so far and last night gave us a glimpse of a bright future

I dont mind if valverde play such line up in home CL matches, but he should keep that conservative approach on away matches like vs chelsea, pep didnt have great away score, thats the reason why he only have 2 CL trophies

Yesterday game was fun to watch, it was a game for entertainment, help player confidence and integrating the new boys (Semedo/Coutinho/Dembele) and the whole moral of the team after underwhelming February
But it wasn't a game to make conclusions unfortunately
Girona played stupid and to helped us to maximize our strength, against tougher teams Coutinho won't have same spaces he had, him and Dembele would be punished for their bad positioning, Semedo attacking would look way worse.
Girona left us space while they are far inferior than us, I really want to say "this is the best formation" etc but the truth is while this is more or less our long term line up it isn't really going to work much this season in tougher games.
Semedo injury also make it worse, was hoping he can stay fit to give us the option of pushing Roberto in midfield when needed

It's seems that it's a failure if you do not win the triplete... as if it were easy to do it.
Winning the triplete is an absolute exception that very few in the world have managed to obtain
We are 1. in la liga with a comfortable advantage (and RM far away and we trashed them at berabeu), we are in cdr final, we are in good position to be in CL 1/4 final...
and this in Valverde fist season, without Naymar, without reinforcements (dembele injured, Coutinho in January).... REALLY NOT BAD, WELL DONE VALVERDE.
I am sure that no one would have bet 1 cent on these results.

agreed especially with the expectations we had for the season after the fiasco of the supercup and neymar's departure
