Ernesto Valverde - V1

He would be fucking stupid to go 4-3-3 when dont have the midfielders or wide players to do it.

Wont be scared from last classico.

No need for the outburst. So u would rather Iniesta or Rakitic go wide? Roberto getting caught upfield will leave Verm and Pique stranded as well. Doesnt work that way either. 442 hadn't turned out well for the past few games, regardless of the opponents.

He has 2/3 results. Win or draw is excellent for us. Madrid are forced to win to get back in the race. If he goes 3 losses out of 3 vs Zidane's Madrid, that is a major sign of concern for the CL this year.

Rather he goes Rakitic and Roberto RB but even then put Real as favourites.

Is it crazy to rate this team higher than the one under Tata? Even though we had better player material back then?
Defense seems solid and we are creating ample chances. As much as fans criticize this team for lack of creativity, we seemed to have more trouble getting in front of goal during that season.

We have problems with the consistency of creating chances. Basically we create clearer chances, because the games are more open, but with not nearly the same rate as in the past. Fewer chances but more clear, with an emphasis on defense seems to be Valverde's MO. If one of the two fail us (good finishing and defense are the keys to success under Valverde) we're in trouble. Whereas in the past we could escape with both poor defending and missing of chances simply because we created so much more, at a faster rate.

Basically it's a very risky game we're playing. Need to be focused at all times and clinical when it matters or we'll get burned.

Don't see how we are in trouble if finishing fails us as finishing is pretty bad as of now even though we are doing well. A team getting into trouble because of defense failing goes without saying...

But then again, it's Rakitic in the RM role that is causing alot of stagnations in plays, even if u look back at the Supercopa. Valverde just doesnt seem to realise it.

You are supposed to praise Valverde according to the bet.

We haven't played too many top sides. Madrid will be a big test. As will Chelsea. If we pass them, then it's a sign that the style he's implementing can work on a grand scale, not only against smaller La Liga teams.

I am not a fan of Rakitic at all. Just prefer Roberto at RB and would rather have Raki playing narrower than other options.

Maybe he will go Semedo and tell him to just stay back and try to match movement of Ronaldo and ask Roberto to man mark Marcelo.

Thing that scares me the most is lack of pace and Real will take risk and ply high line to press like fuck which not sure Barca can deal with.

He is playing Real without a Umtiti, fully fit Masch, Dembele and even Paco.

Cant draw too many conclusions and I think the style he is playing is in relation to players available not some desire to play that 4-4-2 formation.

Madrid played us last season without many starters on Camp Nou (1-1). That's not an excuse. You can lose games like these, but we need to play consistent. So, basically not demanding we win or even draw, but what happened in the Supercup can't happen again.
