Squad wages

Paco, Denis, Gomes and Digne have all been mediocre to disastrous. Cillessen has been a serviceable backup and Umtiti has been great. Calling them utter crap is obviously a hyperbole, but most of them have not impressed at all. Not mention the season before that we brought in Arda for 35M. Imagine what a half decent board and sporting director would have been able to build with the resources we have available here.

No they havent at all.

Paco has got better and like many struggled to adjust, Digne has been fine and Denis has been fairly average and not played in position he did at Villareal.

Cillesen has been a good signing and Umtiti has been very good.

Gomes has been poor and looks terrified though.

Last time I checked we were still F.C. Barcelona and plan on challenging on all three fronts every year. Average is not good enough here, unless we're content with getting eliminated in the CL Quarters every year and letting Real Madrid dominate La Liga for the foreseeable future with their amazing squad depth. Time is not on our side here, all our core players are all above or rapidly approaching their thirties and need backups who can come in and deliver when they need a rest or are injured.

There is a reason why Messi rarely gets rested at all even though he's getting older, the likelihood of us dropping points increases tenfold without him or Neymar in the line-up. Are you at all confident in the abilities of Paco, Denis and Gomes to win us match against even the bottom-feeders of La Liga? That is the difference between us and RM; they can rest their entire first team in the lead up to a big CL match and still hammer their opposition, where we are forced to play our best XI every match if we are to ensure victory.

Average cannot be the standard for our backups anymore as a core ages and can't play every match anymore.

Never said 'average' was good enough but if you are signing a number of young players for not huge, huge fees then some will work out some wont.

It is almost nothing to do with majority of these players that Barca are not winning the league or out the CL anyway.

Maybe Gomes who has been poor in a lot of games but so too have a lot of the starters and above all Lucho.

Won recently when Ney and Messi havent played and Paco scored winner in two of those games. So not as bad as you make out.

The reason for the failure this season above all is the first eleven was not good enough and Luchos ideas.

with those numbers i doubt barca has the power to make a mega-signing this summer unless we can ship off some of the dead horses. But nobody is going to buy those anyway

Roberto needs a better agent.
Well to be fair he signed his current deal in the summer of 2014, and around that time he was nothing more than a young squad player who didn't really warrant higher wages. hell he even has a variable buyout clause that goes from 30 million-40 million depending on how many games he's played.

He needs a new deal soon as it expires in 2019. which no doubt will happen after the Mats,Iniesta and Messi deals are done.

Yeah, but other players have their contracts renewed more often. After the 2015-2016 season, he would have gotten a raise I think. Considering Alves was let go, and our reliance on Roberto increased.

Anyways, better for Barça. And Roberto doesn't seem to care either.

Agreed.
There are tweo big problems emerging from this. One is that Barça finances are drained and other is that everyone who is "on negotioations" to come/extend will ask for much.
So much is fu with this ...

Digne has been reliable and quite good whenever he got the chance to play. A very good backup in other words. If anything he should be getting more minutes on the pitch.

Barça might have high wages, but they also have high revenues.

We should still be able to do mega-siginings.

Paco Alcacer: 107.000/week -> 5.1M
Mathieu: 105.000/week -> 5M
Arda Turan: 100.000/week -> 4.8M
André Gomes: 95.000/week -> 4.6M

Started looking up our squad's wages after we came to the conclusion Paco is earning more than Rakitic :facepalm: here is a list of things I found for people interested.
In my opinion this is another reason why we are struggling with transfers in general, too many poor players on high wages. Pay the stars a lot and the rest less, because some of these figures are ridiculous. Of course it's impossible to say if these numbers are 100% correct so just assume it's more or less accurate. All prices in euros and rounded.

Messi: 303.000/week -> 14.5M
Neymar: 300.000/week -> 14.4M
Luis Suarez: 237.000/week -> 11.4M
Andrés Iniesta: 178.000/week -> 8.5M
Piqué: 155.000/week -> 7.4M
Mascherano: 155.000/week -> 7.4M
Sergio Busquets: 142.000/week -> 6.8M
Paco Alcacer: 107.000/week -> 5.1M
Mathieu: 105.000/week -> 5M
Arda Turan: 100.000/week -> 4.8M
André Gomes: 95.000/week -> 4.6M
Jordi Alba: 90.000/week -> 4.3M
Rakitic: 89.000/week -> 4.3M
Aleix Vidal: 71.000/week -> 3.4M
Ter Stegen: 65.000/week -> 3.1M
Cillessen: 65.000/week -> 3.1M
Digne: 65.000/week ->3.1M
Denis Suarez: 47.500/week -> 2.3M
Umtiti: 47.500/week -> 2.3M
Rafinha: 45.000/week -> 2.2M
Sergi Roberto: 24.000/week -> 1.1M
Masip: 18.500/week -> 890K

On Loan:
Vermaelen: 66.000/week -> 3.2M
Douglas: 42.000/week -> 2M
Samper: 12.000/week -> 576K
Munir: 6.000/week -> 288K

BTW galning I think the Mathieu figures might be wrong as he took a paycut to actually join us and that was from his 3m salary in valencia

Seeing these wages I would sell Paco, Mathieu, Arda ASAP. I don't know about Gomes, maybe give him one more season or not depends on the numbers of signings in midfield. Denis Rafinha and Gomes, only two of them should stay. If we sign two good midfielders only one of them should stay. Give raise to Sergi Roberto too, man deserves more salary and also make him play in midfield more than Right Back. Sign a Right Back and make Roberto backup for both DM and RB positions, start him in midfield sometimes. He plays with dedication.

Just for the record,you guys should take such numbers with grain of salt. They are reported by the media as the club don't release the player wages IIRC
There will be a lot of inaccuracy in it
