Philipp Lahm once said that it is very hard to play on the other side when you're used to one. Everything is different, you have to change your whole game. Maybe you can compare it with driving in England. It's like a brainfuck.

We really need to buy another LB. Its ridiculous that we havent done so.

Maybe the idea behind that was that Semedo is the far more pacey fullback so they wanted him to play the Alba-role with Messi in. Semedo had his best games with a right winger in front of him. He is really good at combination play but looked kinda lost without Dembélé/Malcom because he had none to play with.
