Nelson Semedo

Kevin De Bruyne and Salah, even Lukaku were deemed expendable by Mourinho.

Not saying Semedo is like that, but sometimes some coaches simply aren't capable of getting something out of certain players and that's not because of the players in question, but because of the manager.

Some people take it for granted that the coach always knows the best, no, it's never been like that.

This is true, but also in Barca for past decade or so those players that people were screaming for more playing time, ended up proving coach is right
People wanted Bojan to play more, Yaya over Busquets,Munir,Deulofeu,Adama, Denis and the list goes on. Only exception was injury prone Thiago.
True different player and different coach but Semedo himself didn't prove to be as good as people are making him whenever he played.
i would like to see him and Roberto together over Paulinho/Vidal/Gomes/Paco if Dembele is still rusty. But that isn't because of Semedo doing very well tbf

Semedo played very well until Valverde decided to play Roberto in his position in big and away games and people wondered why and thought it was just normal rotation. Normally you would give a new player as many minutes as you can to integrate him into the team especially when he was performing very well and building confidence. Valverde tried Roberto back then in midfield and wasn't impressed by his performance it seems, so he played him at RB. I don't know if it had something with his 40m buy out clause or not but it seems he played Roberto at RB to keep him happy.

No he didnt.

Semedo was first choice RB in biggest games until Roberto was clearly giving more going forward that is when Roberto took over as first choice.

I think it's a matter of preference for EV. He prefers elegance touch, fluid connection on the right flank to draw defenders wide and open up space for Messi. This favors Roberto.

It's not a knock on Semedo, who defensively can develop into a monster, can hold the ball out wide, yet needs chemistry to play in and receive passes on that right flank. He doesn't have the luxury of time to get this and we'll have to be patient to bring out his best going forward. He has shown a lot of promise, and you'd have to be blind not to see that.

He started away to Atletico and in CL.

The game against Atletico they virtually left him free as he was so little threat on the ball. Roberto came on and set up the equaliser.

Oh sorry you are right.
But still after one bad game he should have stayed first choice.

Everyone was raving about Samedo after just a few games .... best buy of the decade was one comment at the time .

What did he do wrong exactly ?

Because he has been the better RB and offers more going forward which is a big part of Valverde system.

All players have bad games but can still judge who the better player has been in comparison to others.

Semedo can offer more than Roberto going forward he just needs to improve the link-up with the other players and this can only happen with more playing time.
Valverde is just ultra conservative and is afraid to try anything new, you can see that with the way he is treating Coutinho and Dembele.
