Jorge Mendes has frozen contract talks between Bar?a and Semedo, convinced that he will find an acceptable offer for the player from a club in a matter of weeks. Closest club right now is City but they have a greater interest in Roberto, who is not on the table. [Llu?s Miguelsanz, SPORT]

He still looks hellbent on leaving, which is good news to me.

Why haven't we banned Jorge Mendes yet? Fkn do it Fergie style

one of the best, why would we do that?
I think it is best to let either SB or NS go. One of them should be enough!

It's absurd to sell him since he's the only natural rb choice. Would be wiser to keep him and buy another rb for him to compete with for the starting spot. And thus finally give Bob his minutes in midfield.

Be great to sell Roberto to City and to keep Semedo. Simply because replacing Semedo will be MUCH easier in a season or two.

You keep Roberto here and you got another one of those Catalan players overstaying their welcome issues yet again.

Well, Roberto is only under contract for two more years. As long as we don't give him a new 5-year contract I'd still kept him over Semedo for now.

And tbh I don't think he'll ever have unbenchable status like Suarez, Busi, Pique, Alba,... Surely, he'll play a lot because of his versatility but when his time will come and we'll get a better player we'll move on from him much easier than from other amigos.

Admittedly alot will depend on the new board and the route they choose to take.

But if this board decide to renew Roberto right now (which we will have to do if he is not sold), then don't get shocked at his wage and contract length.

Wouldn't be that opposed to selling him. His main attribute which is speed is useless in this old team for another few years. By that time he'd be 28-29.

Jesus, get a grip. You sound more and more like a broken record (BBZesque). Semedo is just not good enough - not everything is down to the seniors. Even his defensive output is rather limited when comapred to a real defensive fullbacks (like Madrids Mendy). Heck, Mendy has more and better individual scenes in offense.

If one is to be sold, it should be Roberto.
He is useful because of his versatility, but given there is no position where he excels, someone in the team or out there is better than him in all positions.

Semedo, on the contrary, is a pure RB, who as a RB, and not in general is better than Roberto.
He was misused by EV, has already improved a lot under Setien, and can give more (lOl at people saying he is not good defensively. One of his best traits)

The talk about many RBs out there being better than Semedo illustrates either wishful thinking about young and upcoming prospects or not having a proper sense of the reality of RBs right now. Just try to think who is better than Semedo atm in top teams in Europe. You will find a few untouchable and unsaleable players, a lot that are not better or old, and then nothing of proven quality. Just enumerate some:
Walker? Questionable. Old to buy now.
Trent? Of course. He is worth 100+
Wan-bisaka? Not better.
Hakimi? Maybe. He was just sold, he would never play for Barca anyway.
Who else is there? Pavard? Danilo? De Sigclio? Azplicueta? Menieur?
And then we are talking about Dest and Dest-type players who might turn out good in the future, but are less proven than Semedo was when he came in.

So, after some reality-checking, we see that there are not that many options of quality RBs out there that can play better than Semedo.

There is a reason no one wants Roberto (bar Pep) and there is a reason the only two Barca players that generated concrete interest -when the whole team is for sale bar Messi, Ter Stegen, and De Jong - were Arthur and Semedo.

All interest in Semedo evaporated the moment clubs heard about his salary demands.
That is the reason he is up for sale, it isn't a tactical decision but he is simply a guy who wants more than what the club thinks he deserve.
Regarding his improvements with Setien, he improved a lot on offense but also took 2 step backs in defense

Lol, a RB in a 4-3-3 needs a RW to combine with in offense.

In the few times we had Semedo - Dembele together on the right it was the side where we were fastest, most threatening and most active.

Too many guys think football is like FIFA where one players bombs forward and creates havoc on his own.

What I demand is completely logical and simple. For the systemic problems this team has been suffering for years to be solved. Then we can talk about players who have it and players who don't and need to be moved on.

Don't you see that nobody that we sign gets better here? We made De Jong look an average talent after he was named best midfielder in the Champions League playing for Ajax.

We must be the only supposedly elite team in the world where players stand still like those zombies from Walking Dead. Dynamism and speed of play 2/10.
