Maybe true for a younger Ronaldo, but he's learned that team success in the big competitions is key for individual awards now.
Messi got Barca through the United tie last year and Chelsea the year before.

The last two times he handed the free kick over to Pjanic, they got a goal from it. His wall shooting got more and more embarrassing over the years.
