Trophies are facts. Big stage is just that...for all to witness.
No body gives a fuck about your Sevilla slalom...or even if you score amazing goal in copa final against Bilbao.
There are only two people who can win it unless someone else does something REALLY special. Messi has no chance of winning it now, so that leaves Ronaldo. He's got the ballon dor won. Hopefully it's his last.

If Real Madrid wins the CL (and God forbid both the CL and the league), it is guaranteed that Ronaldo will win the BD for 2017 no matter how poor he is. Today's performance will count, of course.
It used to be that way, but that was because in addition to winning trophies, Ronaldo and Messi made it a yearly habbit of smashing in 50-60 goals a season, every single season.
Ronaldo likely will likely hit 35-40 at the end, which is more like a "regular" top striker, in terms of numbers.

Amen. You thought we hit rock bottom in 2016, but 2017 could be just as bad. Fuck football right now.
35-40 is still better than any other striker apart from the usual Messi and Suarez, but them two have as much chance as Bentdner at winning it now. It's done, all Ronaldo needs to do is win the CL and he's got his 5th ballon dor. La liga and CL plus 35-40 goals, not a player that can beat that.

Real Madrid have analyzed, implemented and built the perfect team for Ronaldo as he ages. They have guys to create for him and drive the team forward in ways that he can't do anymore.
Meanwhile we need Messi to be the entire midfield and attack in our team and basically play the role of 5-6 players.
