People's been saying that he is declining for the past five years. He really is not. Today was another example of that. We will see about the upcoming season but at the moment this is still peak Ronaldo.

He has changed his game to minimize the effect of his decline. He hardly dribbles and plays on the flanks these days, he hovers mostly around the box and he looks for that perfect service for him to put the ball into the net. He doesn’t play every game anymore and he saves himself for the big games. He is one smart helluva player.

Enjoy Ronaldo while you can guys. He is a great great player and he won’t be here forever either. Don’t be so salty every time he scores some goals and try to diminish what he did and try to keep a score between him and Messi. Enjoy football guys.

Okay, if you meant physical decline, then I agree. In terms of ability though he is still as good. He has been shit at dribbling since 10/11, that part of him is long gone, though he still can easily dribble past a player if he has space. His vision improved dramatically as well. People overlook his playmaking capabilities.

So in the end after this draw Portugal will finish first in the group, Arg and Portugal will meet in the QF and Ronaldo will knock Argentina out(Messi will probably miss a penalty too and Higuain will have a shocker as usual). Portugal will win the WC and I'll stop watching football.

That’s a lot of speculation, mate. Still a very long way to go for something like that to happen.

You have to be kidding. Ronaldo dragged RM all the way to the semis in CL almost single-handedly. He is still the best player Madrid have ever had.
In the last 3 years he really diminished the distance between him and Messi in terms of legacy.

At this point, it's completely ridiculous to say ''he has diminished the distance between him and Messi''.

He's almost certainly winning another Ballon D'or which will put him at 6 to Messi's 5.

He has 5 Champions League titles with two different teams and three in a row when no team has managed to defended it once. Messi has 4 and never won back-to-back.

He helped Portugal win the Euro, while Messi has never brought Argentina Copa America.

Legacy wise, Ronaldo currently has the better résumé, the debate who is more impactful or skillful will remain forever.

and that is what I meant. Three years ago he had 2 Bdors, 2 CLs, and no Euro win. There was no debate. Now people are revising.

That was not the case until about 2015. Messi used to be consistently amazing in big games before the first Copa America final loss.

It's all over for the GOAT debate after Portugal wins the WC unfortunately.

If Ronaldo ends up winning the World Cup, the debate is over.

Yeah. Although Cristiano already has won Euro 16, the GOAT debate would definitely over if he wins the World Cup.

Cristiano will forever be recognized as a GOAT and be compared with Pelé & Maradona who are also former WC-winners.

Sure, Messi is a much better player than all of them ability wise and people can make YT-complications to highlight his greatness for future generations who never saw him play regulary.

did not intend to claim that Messi it to blame for that loss, rather picked it as a milestone for his following inconsistent perfomances at the biggest stage afterwards.

I don’t want to be impolite but please, get a grip man.

There are too many overly pessmistic people here subscribing to the gloom and doom forecast , starting from the first goal Ronaldo scored. That was their FIRST game people! The WC has another month to go.

If Ronaldo wins the WC or gets one more Bd than Messi, the world is coming to an end? Come on.

Balon D'Or doesn't matter, winning with two different teams doesn't matter either. Portugal have the euros so Ronaldo has that but he didn't play well. He does have 5 Champions Leagues to Messi's 4 but that may change back in Messi's favour.

Messi has 9 league titles to Ronaldo's 5 and is clearly the better player when you watch them, Ronaldo can get close to Messi in goalscoring but thats it.

Football played is the only legacy worth talking about and Messi kills Ronaldo in that department. The gap between them as footballers has grown in the last few years, Ronaldo is still incredibly inconsistent whilst Messi is on it nearly all the time.

Overly pessimistic? Real Madrid just won 3 CLs in a row. Would you have thought that in 2016?
