in addition, he had a clear goal disallowed (ball was fully inside the goal line) by a referee. Without such bad luck his La Liga total should be close to 30. Let's hope his luck will turn tomorrow.

Messi hitting the woodwork doesn't mean that he's unlucky, quite the opposite actually, it proves that his aim is off. A shot of the post/crossbar is just another shot off target for all I care and he really needs to work on fine-tuning his accuracy. Luck is determined by things one cannot control and the placement of Messi's shots is all down to him. He would be unlucky for instance if he was shooting the ball perfectly into the corners only to be stopped by tremendous goalkeeping.

At times last season his finishing was ridiculous, especially from sometime around February to the end of the season. At that point any time Messi got the ball at or around the edge of the box he scored with incredible frequency. He was scoring 2 goals every match with basically no service with shots from outside the box. We can't obviously expect him to be that accurate, but he definitely needs to improve.

I do consider it somewhat unlucky... An inch further inside and he scores but conversely an inch the other way and he misses completely.

You can’t expect any football player to be inch perfect with their shots. That’s just crazy.

This is true. Playing too deep and him aging don't help either.
