his best years were 10-11, 11-12,12-13 and 14-15 with 14-15 his most complete season, 09-10 while still great isn't among his top 5 seasons

14-15 was the most complete. could still do with a few more players in midfield and attack and I still think Messi can reproduce another season like that.

That year i think Barca had a good Rakatic and Neymar. Kinda went stale after that.

2010-2011 he was dominant and decisive in every CL KO game. 2014-2015 he was dominant versus bayern and had great games v city and juve but didn't have the goals to show for it. the PSG draw in 14-15 was basically a bye week for us

I'd take 09/10 over 12/13. More inconsistent perhaps but more memorable performances, too. He had a great El Clasico and put four past Arsenal, but the one I will never forget is that game against Zaragoza and how he made those defenders look.

2014-15 had better stats (58 G & 28 A vs 53 G & 24 A) and a treble vs a double while being decisive in every competition, he also contributed more in midfield then before.
Better stats and more trophies makes it clear 2014-15 was (slightly) better.

2012/13 was probably his best/most consistent La Liga campaign and clearly more dominant then 9/10, not even close really.
Messi was crazy consistent that season scoring in 75 % of games overall.
I also think 16/17 and the past season might be slightly better overall then 09/10.

Imo people have rose tinted glasses concerning his early seasons with Guardiola but the stats and the trophies don't lie.

The thing is that while Messi was a BEAST in 10/11 and 14/15,the way we perceive his performances is greatly influenced by the UCL success. In the meanwhile,he was OUT OF THIS WORLD in 11/12 and 12/13,the man scored like 160 goals during these two seasons...I'd also rank 16/17 as one of his top 5 seasons,as he carried a shitshow of a team, despite not winning a major title, putting unbelievable performance after unbelievable performance. So:

TIER 1:

11/12
12/13

TIER 2:

10/11
14/15

TIER 3:

16/17

TIER 4:

09/10
15/16

TIER 5:

08/09
17/18

TIER 6:

13/14

I don't really count anything before Pep

I would put 15/16 below 08/09 and 17/18

6 2008/2009
7 2016/2017
8 2017/2018
9 2015/2016
10 2013/2014

no way he's going to improve.

he's slower, older and lazier then he's ever been. can't expect him to come back like 2015. in 2015 he was still only 27 years old in his absolute physical prime.

beaten, worn down messi is not making a comeback. doesn't have the physical capabilities for it.

he will still be world class, but we don't need him to be the goat every match, i would gladly accept a few less la liga goals if it means he will be more DECISIVE.

he needs to swallow his pride and ego and play no more than 25 la liga matches this season. but in the matches he does play he needs to give it 100% and constantly work. this will help him in the CL matches immensely.

what happened when he didn't played against Levante ? relegation zoned club ? . Take any La liga team , they will feel like playing against 11 without Messi . with him it's like playing against 12 . We wouldn't have lost Levante match with him . Messi resting 12 matches in league means , we will drop points for sure . It's not about ego or anything .

Messi 2010/2011 was the best Messi i have ever seen. This Level was just out of this world, his dribblings and passes every game were pure magic. I dont understand why the most people rate his 12/13 season so high. Yes, he scored many many goals but his dribblings and passes were so bad compared to his other seasons. In 13/14 this wasnt Messi, I dont know what happened with him that season. Maybe injured or stomach problems. But in WC 2014 he looked much more active and created some amazing moments. In 14/15 the old Messi was back, for me his second best season. His passes reached a new level and the Performance against Bayern was one of the greatest in the history of Champions League. Since then he never reached that level again, in 16/17 he had some amaing perfomances like against Real Madrid but overall 10/11 and 14/15 were his best.

How can you expect to play without Messi when they get only 1-2 times per season to prove that ? By the way it was stupid to do that against Levante who won their last 5 matches.

9 2015/2016
10 2013/2014

15/16 was by no means his worst . He was decesive in most matches except that Atleti match were he had to play after world cup qualifiers . clearly he was exhausted . By his standards his worst season was 2013-14 . in 2015-16 despite being injured for 2 months he scored 26 league goals , scored a double against Arsenal away , scored in Cwc final against Riverplate ( far better team compared to those clubs like kashima , and other shit clubs ) . Let's analyse his league performance .

Came in after 60th minute against Real and was involved in 4th goal and had a good game ,
came in after 60 minutes against Atleti in Calderon and scored the winner
scored the winner against Atleti in Camp nou . Another closely fought match were Luis was send off for fouling Messi .
Scored winner against kamini and assisted Munir's goal in Rosaleda , a match were we got schooled by that Malaga side
Assisted suarez against Valencia away ( Another closely fought match were match ended in a draw )
scored the Fk against sevilla in camp nou after going down 0-1 in first 10 minutes
After we lost 3 back to back matches in league he stepped again , assisting against Betis away , scoring and assisting against Depo away , scoring against Espanyol
WE were down to 10 men in CDR Final against sevilla , Alba breaked the deadlock from a beautiful pass from Messi , he assisted for the second goal as well. scored in the semi final against Valencia as well

Tbf, Levante were the most in-form LaLiga team where they collected 25 of 30 points in the past 10 games with their new manager.

Also, we scored 3 goals so it's not like we had problems offensively.

We lost due to our horrific defence, not due to Messi's absence.

Messi should definitely skip a handful of games to get ready for CL KO-stage IMHO.
