Of course his passes got intercept a lot. Cuz he was the ONLY ONE who tried to create opportunities for goal. Better loss possession than just pass backward and sideway all the time.

We also had no natural wingers in the field who can pull defenders to sideline and help create space for him at the center. Should we expect him to dribble/make a pass through 7-8 players?

I don't compare Messi to average players. By HIS standards he did not have a top match. Still best player aside from Busquets who generated the decisive red card and handed Messi the assist. Still, Messi had to get rid of 2 defenders and beat a very good goalkeeper ...

He was picking the ball up in the centre circle and trying to dribble through 2 lines of Villareal's defence while we played 442 while recieving no help from his teammates. We need him in that false 9 role, not in the midfield. Messi needs to live in the final third, where you can just give him the ball and watch the magic happen. His dribbling defences through the middle from midfield days are probaby over.

He is trying too many risky passes because the team isn't creative enough.

What's better, passing safe so that the match will end 0-0 or getting dispossessed and failing a lot of passes but creating 1/2 chances that can be goals?

It wasn't his best match, but he's the only attacking threat we have... The rest of the team should be embarrassed...
