Since when is Ronaldo the best Champions League player ever, where did that come from? He scores a lot of goals but football is more than stats, I would say Messi has performed to a higher standard especially in finals. Ronaldo's game has deteriorated in recent years but his stats are better which seems to be confusing people. Ronaldo is benefiting from resting up for half the year and giving it all in Europe but that only pays off if they lift the trophy otherwise its been a shit season for him and Real.

Messi performs all season long and has the same number of Champions League titles and will be winning his 9th league title this week which is almost double Ronaldo's total and Leo is 3 years younger, he could end up with 12 or 13 league titles which would be extraordinary. Messi plays every game because he loves football, he doesn't want to sit any game out. That is a great quality to have and has stood him in good stead his entire career, but at his age maybe he needs to sit out a few games a season for his benefit and the teams

Barca were called Uefalona for a reason. Did you forget the 2009 second leg semi final against Chelsea? The referee never officiated another game. Barca fans shouldn't talk about referees after that game.

It was never a foul by Bale on Juanfran smh you're clutching at straws, it was very smart situational play. The ref cannot call anything unless stonewall in that moment of the game, he has to let the players play. RM deserved to win the game, they completely dominated that second half and it was only a matter of time before RM scored the equaliser. RM were relentless. It showed on Atletico bench just before the equaliser, some of the players couldn't watch because they knew the inevitable was going to happen.

Listen, football is all about goals and goals decide games, either from open play, set plays or spot kicks. Goals are more than stats. Ronaldo is the greatest goal scorer ever too. The most important stat at the end of the game is the score/result which is of course goals again. Nobody cares about anything else in all honesty. An example is a team that has 80% possession in a game but cannot convert that into goals, what good is it? It's about putting the ball in the back of the net and Ronaldo does that better than anybody I have ever seen.

Ronaldo is not the best CL player ever; he might have a few more goals but Messi has been the better player in CL over the years. A few examples of why goals alone don't tell the full story

1. 2015 CL Semis
-Messi and Ronaldo both score 2 goals (vs Bayern, Juve) over the two legs, yet the difference in performance and impact on their respective ties is enormous. Messi's goals are both world class, he assists another, has two pre-assists in the 2nd leg, and is a constant danger for all 180 minutes. Ronaldo scores a tapin from the goal line and a pk, but does little else as Madrid get knocked out.

2. 2011 vs 2014 final
-Messi and Ronaldo both go down as having scored 1 goal. However, Messi was MOTM and world class for all 90 minutes and scored a brilliant goal while Ronaldo did nothing apart from scoring a pk after the match was over and flexing for the cameras. If you're judging only by goals scored, then you would consider these performances the same.

You like to cherry pick dont you? Ronaldo wasnt fully fit in both finals against Atletico, thats a fact. When Ronaldo is fully fit like he was in 2017, he is simply a destroyer. Look, Ronaldo has scored 120 CL goals, how many has Messi scored?

They were a lot closer in 2016 but since then Ronaldo has accelerated away. I believe Messi was first to break Raul's record too. That should tell you how much Ronaldo has been dominating Messi in the CL.

he was fully fit AND in his prime in the 09 final and the real madrid years under mourinho. how come he didn't destroy teams left and right in CL back then, and couldn't score a goal v barca in CL? maybe because barca had the stronger team back then and real has the stronger team now

What are you talking about? You called someone out for being a cherry picker with stats now you are doing it.

CURRENTLY as of today Messi has a better goals/game ratio in the Champions League and he’s 3 years younger than Ronaldo.

The guy is a wind-up merchant. Too bad the moderating these days is subpar when Barcaman is not around, especially compared to when I joined this forum.

Now a few months later Cristiano is the GOAT and Messi is finished because Real Madrid won back to back CLs.

unfortunately the way ronaldo keeps going to score at least 12-15 goals every year neutralized in fact his handicap of being 2 years older than Messi, ronaldo's ratio in the last 5-6 years is far better than Messi, i just don't see Messi score 80 fucking goals in the next 5-6 CL runs for example so it's only matter of time but i think Ronaldo will end his career with also better scoring ratio than Messi in CL wich it's not a real problem, much worst for his legacy if Messi will end his career with less CL titles....

Yes, Messi was better from 2008-13 but Ronaldo is better since then. A lot of happened this season that made me give the edge to CR7 like Messi's performances in both legs against Roma and winning back to back CL's is just remarkable. Tell me why Messi couldn't win back to back CLs with the greatest club side ever against ten man Inter and Chelsea if he's better? Also CR7 has won a trophy with his country, Messi has had four attempts and failed all of them.
