10 - Lionel Messi - v5

He isnt in good form. Needs to much shots to score at the moment and his free kicks were terrible for his standards. Hopefully Valverde rest him in the previous game before Chelsea, Barca needs a superior Messi to win against Chelsea.
By the way he should not play to many games this season cause of the World Cup.

There was a solid one to two month stretch last year in the 2nd half of the season where if Messi got the ball anywhere near the opponents box it was almost a guaranteed goal. He went on a tear and scored 2 goals in every match to close out the season. He was scoring from outside the box like a madman.

He hit that torrid patch of form after visiting his nutritionist if I remember correctly. He is way too lackadaisical in front of goal at the moment. With that being said an out of form Messi is still better than virtually every other player on the planet and can still win you matches with ease.

Well, when he aint scoring, he's creating them. :messi:

So lethal, so accurate. Give him an inch of space, you're done. Perfect bland of vision, passing, dribbling and shooting. Just epic. :worthy:

He already has 25 goals and we are at the middle of the season(not even at the middle if we progress far in CL and CDR).Which means that at this rate,he will get 50 goals by the end of the season. That’s an insane number fir world class strikers and a decent number for Leo(he had 53 in 2010/11 for example).

Also, the team has been playing better the past month and with the addition of Coutinho,we expect Barca to score more goals, thus Messi scoring more goals.Which means that,if everything goes well,he can end up with 55-60 goals.

In the second leg of the Copa del Rey against Celta Vigo, the Camp Nou witnessed an something that supporters haven't been used to seeing for a long time: Messi leaving the field of play because of the coach's decision before the hour mark.

He was replaced in the 59th minute by Ousmane Dembele, and the last time Messi left the pitch that early was on September 29, 2007 in the Ciutat de Valencia against Levante - 302 games ago.

On that occasion, Barcelona were already leading 4-0 and the Argentine had scored the fourth.

Immediately afterwards, Rijkaard decided to replace him with Gio dos Santos.

Since then, Messi has been replaced on the odd occasion before the 60th minute, but always because of an ailment or injury.

I feel we should ban marca after what they tried to do with those abidal comments and always (as now) trying to stirr up things and take away shine fromm Messi/Barca.
